Squeak ROCKS!!!

#1

Post by markg »

I will not hide my love for the Spyderco Slipjoint. Just got my Squeak in today, and love it. Deep low ride clip, Urban sized without the urban price. Strong back spring. Great knife.

Got one for some upcoming international traveling.

I will note, I did not have the issue with the blade hitting the backspacer some complained of, or maybe I am just not seeing it.

I love my squeak too. You actually have to press down on the closed blade a reasonable distance to make it contact the backspring, which only blunts the very tip. IMO the spring on the UKPK and squeak feel the same, the UKPK just seems weaker due to the longer blade (and leverage of the longer blade). You forgot to mention how darn light the squeak is too. Very carry friendly...

Pushing the blade into the handle isn't a carry issue. I can't imagine it would compress much unless you're a circus contortionist.

I love my Squeak. I'm interning in NYC for the summer and it has been the perfect EDC knife. Small, rides low in my dress slacks, and it's legal. Only thing I did was swap out the wire clip with the one on my Sage 1 as its more subdued.

Received my Squeak during yesterday's mail call (mail takes a while to get to a deployed ship so it is a little like Christmas every time) :D . I like it very much. As many have said before it is a light and handy little knife with a touch of class (like the big man's involvement and his trademark on the blade). Being given the opportunity to visit foreign lands presents an issue with knives and such which was mainly the reason to purchase a few SLIPITS and slipjoints (see my sig below for current inventory). I find the Squeak to be quite useful in small tasks that require precise cutting and I appreciate the jimping and the wire clip, which makes low profile carry all the more easier. That and it doesn't have the chance of frightening NKP compared to say, my SE Tasman.

:spyder: Keep up the good work SPYRDERCO!!!! :spyder:

Can't wait for mine to finally arrive. Please, postal gods, have mercy! I am really looking forward to having a small one-hand opener from Spyderco as an EDC blade that I can legally carry here in Germany :)

I just got mine today and I am very surprised. I have to say I was a little hesitant about the Squeak at first, but for $37 shipped, what's to lose. I originally bought it to put in my desk at work but after my gf saw it, I haven't seen it since, guess I'll have to order another. Oh well. I have fairly large hands and it comfortable to hold, it has a great "lock up" for a slip joint and and is one well made very cool little knife.

I've had my Squeak for a while now and over the last two weeks it hardly left my pockets. I actually would have liked to carry a slightly larger blade but somehow I was stuck with those weird women's jeans/pants with very shallow pockets. But the Squeak fit right in. And it saw A LOT of use because there seem to be an endless procession of pre-Christmas parcels to open, shrink wrap to destroy, string to be cut. But the highlight this week was when the parcel courier turned up with an europallet full of boxes for the office, all wrapped up in tough security foil. He asked for a knife. And the Squeak came to the rescue :-) Totally made my day.

Mine doesn't, but if I squeezed it while closed I am pretty sure it would hit.

I love mine, love a lot of things about it.

I kind of wish the texture on the FRN was different. It is bi-directional, but doesn't offer much up and down grip because the horizontal texture is so far below the side to side texture. I grab it just below the pivot to close it and I don't know how many times my fingers have slipped and almost got myself while closing it.

I'm bumping this. I want to know if people have the slipping problem I do, or if they are closing it differently than I am.

I'm with you on the texturing. Sometimes it even gives me trouble when trying to open the knife. While the texture gives a good grip lengthwise it's pretty slippy up and down.

Most of the time I close the knife by holding it tightly between thumb and index finger right at the pivot, keep my other fingers out of the way and push the back of the blade against my leg. If I'm closing it in my hand I have the thumb on the pivot, the middle finger digging into dent of the wire clip and I push it closed with my index finger. That's the safest way I've found to work for me.

By now you are probably out if the NYC and back in Boston...just wanted to post to clarify in case someone else is busy reading this thread in NYC. The squeak clipped to pocket in NYC will bring you unwanted trouble. In NYC at this moment police are confiscating and summonings people for carrying folders that are clipped to their pockets, does not matter what size blade, if the squeak can be opened by inertia force then it is illegal. Fixed Blades on the other hand are legal and can be carried concealed with a blade up to 4". Seems the DA in NYC thinks most folding knives are to be defined as switchblades.
Right or wrong it's what's happening. Police have been instructed to watch for knives clipped to the pocket (not concealed in the DA's estimation) and to take the appropriate action. Just a heads up so people visiting NYC don't find themselves in a heap of trouble or losing their folding knives......Doc :)

Why anyone would go to NYC is beyond my comprehension... but it would be stupidity to give them an open invitation to confiscate.

Thanks for the info. I truly hope this loser of a DA suffers some consequence for these unlawful actions. Talk about abuse of power...

A very smart and diplomatic answer. It’s really appreciable and general.
