I got my Super Blue Caly 3.5 today, and it's nice. Very clean and smooth out of the box. Fit and finish is excellent and lockup is rock solid. This is my 3rd gray G-10 knife, and the color is growing on me. I like how it looks on this one. It came razor sharp as usual. The Caly 3.5 really is a great design, packing a nice size, very useful blade into a small, neat package that rides unobtrusively in the pocket. I'm looking forward to carrying this one. :D
One kind of interesting thing is it came wrapped in brown paper with Japanese writing.

My Super Blue Mule also came wrapped in that paper. If I remember right, it's designed to inhibit corrosion and rusting by absorbing moisture out of the air.

I saw that Howes had them in stock this morning and was considering buying another one for backup but they sold out of them in a couple of hours before I made up my mind.

I'm really looking forward to getting one to use and really let the darksider out to play. I'll begin at about 20 degrees inclusive and work my way down. :)

Mine came in yesterday. Beautiful knife. Very sharp out of the box. This was also my first Caly 3.5, always loved the Caly 3. For me, the 3.5 seems more natural in the choked grip. Fit and finish is excellent. Looking forward to learning how this metal performs, and more about the super blue characteristics. Another great knife by Spyderco.
one thing i've always wondered about the caly3.5 is why it only says japan, and not seki city on it? i'm sure the answer is something obvious, and i'll let you all enlighten me.
Only one of Spyderco's makers in Japan uses the Seki stamp. I'm not sure how many makers Spyderco uses in Japan, but it's at least two. Simple answer is the Caly3 isn't made by the particular manufacturer that stamps Seki-City on their knives.
My Super blue arrived. Although it was pretty sharp OOTB, I still touched up the edge slightly with the Sharpmaker UF rods (15 degree slots) and a loaded strop. It got a lot sharper. The edge that good carbon steel can take is really exceptional.

If I recall correctly, it is Moki that does not use "Seki City" in the stamping of knives that they manufacture.
My Caly3.5 SB did not come with the paper wrap. I'm in the CC, though, so I guess it was discarded after the additional engraving. Mine got a wipe down with Tuf-Cloth & Tuf-Glide already.

In Amsterdam Sal told me that he was negociating with a Japanese (firm) that was willing and able to make the Caly SB. He stated that he really had to look for someone able to work this steel.

That's my understanding as well. They may not have always been the only Japanese maker Spyderco has used to do that, but I'm pretty sure they've been the only one doing it for a few years now. Some of the models they've been responsible for producing are the Jess Horns, Kiwi, Kopa, large and small Persians, aa well as the "Caly/Calypso" family.
I decided to force a patina on mine figuring I could always polish it off if I didn't like the way it came out. But I was pretty happy with the way it came out. A natural patina should continue to develop over it.

Very easy. I just immersed the blade in a glass of regular white vinegar for about 30 minutes or so and then washed it off. The bevel was dark until I stropped it. After that, I put some Tuff-Glide on the tang in the pivot area which restored smooth opening and closing action.
