Teens Carrying Knives
Guys, what do you think about teenagers, like myself, carrying knives? I'm 15, and while it's legal for me to carry a knife in California (no limit on size of concealed folders), with no mention of knives in the county law, I'm still afraid what will happen if the police, or other people see my carrying. I'm kinda worry some sheeple will scream "terrorist!" and lock the whole place down, or the police will hassle me for my age/knife.
Any comments/suggestions/advice? I carry the Spyderco Endura 4 inside of my waistband, but I'm afraid that my shirt might go up and someone might see it.

I personally carry it without caring. If people freak out, it's their problems. I carry a Military sometimes and always carry a Para 2 and an orange ladybug. I've walked by LE's while carrying and they don't care as long as I'm not causing any trouble. My friend's dad is a LEO and he doesn't really care.
For advice, just carry it.

Where are you carrying the knife, and why would anyone think you are a terrorist? If you ACT like a terrorist, that is one thing. If they are going to scream "terrorist" at every kid with a knife...that should be their problem.
If you are legal, don't worry about it. A cop COULD take away ANYTHING you have on you that could be construed as a weapon...no point in worrying though because almost anything could be a weapon, and no one should live in fear of the law if they are obeying it.
Do not be an idiot, but also do not be a coward. Know the law, be concerned with the law, obey the law. If you are going to live your life based on how every person you meet wants you to look and act, you are going to be doing a lot of dancing, and ultimately failing

I have carried a knife since I was even younger...having grown up in scouts we were taught from a young age the usefulness but also the danger of knives and so in my family it was no big deal. But these days with the amount of youth violence and crime, it might be a good idea to be smart about what and when you are carrying.
If its a friday night and you are out with friends and are being...teenagers. It might be a good idea to either not carry or maybe go with a SAK. For the rest of the time, sure carry, but be discrete and carry something that isn't going to automatically scream weapon. You will probably get a lot more attention with a larger, black, tanto blade then you would be a smaller leaf shaped non coated blade. Something like a brown Delica for example. Brown gives it a more utilitarian or tool look than black, and a delica is small and not aggressively styled.
Just my thoughts...but keep in mind that a leo can and will confiscate anything they feel like.

On the hunt for...
In addition to what I said...
If you are carrying around a waved (ziptie or otherwise) knife and ripping it out with a speedy deployment, it is not the knife that is drawing the negative attention
Catch my drift? If you want people to accept you and your knife, you need to act responsibly. I have no idea how you deploy, but if you EVER wave-deploy a knife in front of a stranger (unless it is a special emergency), you are not helping your cause.

Being in scouts since age 5 through Eagle scout, I had a knife on me since about 10 outside of school and never had a problem (I'm now 24). I think its more about how you present yourself as well. A 15 year old in a scout uniform would probably get strange looks for not having a knife on them, where as a 15 year old that dresses/acts like a gang banger would get a lot more negative attention from people and LEO if they had a knife, chain, screwdriver, etc. Currently I work at a clothing store and sometimes a customer will ask me to cut something (usually a plastic tie holding shoes together that they've just purchased) and reactions often vary from "Wow, that thing looks dangerous" to "Thanks! A man should always have a knife on him."
No matter what your age, you need to act like an adult to carry any weapon. Many men and woman have given their life protecting our rights. Don't mess it up by acting like an *** when you carry. It's a black eye on all of those who do it the right way. Don't give the politician any ammunition to use against our rights.
I am old farm boy and we always carried a knife. I am old enough that when I was born the doctor used a knife to cut your umbilical cord. When he was done, he's tuck it in your diaper and there it would stay until you got your first pair of britches and then it would go in your pocket. Times are a bit different now.
Context is everything. Carrying a tool as a tool is legal. How you present yourself is at least half the battle.
With all those disclaimers out of the way, :p , I hardly think a moderate blade would be considered a bad thing. Swiss Army Knives are carried by Boy Scouts for goodness sakes. A Delica is pretty tame while I probably wouldn't want a cop to ask to see a Tasman (for anyone).
Compliance and a good attitude will get you a long ways in life. If you bring a knife to a school or state building (for example) you will be hosed regardless of your age even if you don't do anything wrong.
As you get older it's true you can get away with more. People with gray hair can drive fast sportscars easier than young people in loud Honda's. It's the perk of waking up with a sore back and having to adhere your teeth in the morning. :D
PS: This in no way has to do with "knife defense" as that's a ball of legal wax to steer clear of.

I got my first Spyderco when I was 13 (an SS Cricket, because I wasn't sure I could carry something bigger legally) and gradually moved up to bigger and scarier knives. I think I was 15 when I carried a Native. I'm 20 now and carry a Manix 2.
My knives have always been perfectly visible in my right front pants pocket and I've never had a problem. :) In your waistband, nobody is even going to see it, although I'd almost consider that a police officer might be a little more suspicious of you "hiding" a knife in your waistband rather than just carrying it in your pocket. However, as long as you behave responsibly, you shouldn't even have to deal with that possibility.
Also, like Unit said, I ask that you re-think your use of the word "sheeple" and don't throw it around too lightly. You should take any opportunity to educate so-called "sheeple" rather than labeling them disparagingly. :)

I'm 17 and i carry every time i leave the house. What i'm carrying can vary from a manix to a zt 0301, just act responsibly and you'll have no troubles. Also, if you fear people spotting the pocket clip just dump the knife in your pocket, its still relatively easy to draw and no one will notice it.
