Para 2 black blade

#1

Post by Texas guy »

After carrying my Para 1 for several years now, I picked up a black-bladed Para 2 recently. This knife is an awesome redesign, it has the best fit, finish and design of any knife I've owned. I know people occasionally get knives with various small imperfections, etc, but after almost two weeks of carrying, using and close scrutinzation, this particular example is perfect. The blade is perfectly centered without any blade play even lacking the slightest lateral movement half-opened. I have never been an anal stickler for perfection with anything manufactured, but Spyderco has proven it's possible. The bevel grind is symmetrical and the G10 is symmetrically shaped (two of my Para 1s had slight irregularities in the handle beveling). It is my fist DLC coated blade, and I'm looking forward to seeing it's toughness with more use.
It was purchased more for the collection, thinking my Para 1 could never be replaced (it would make a good user-knife photo submission with it's obvious wear and worn near slick G10), but I couldn't help but clip the 2 in my pocket and use it, my trusty Para 1 is jealously collect dust on my night stand now, lol.
Of the twenty plus knives I own (predominately Spydercos), it takes a lot to be a daily carry, but the Para 2 literally went from box to pocket, and it's still there.
The longer blade is much better for slicing apples etc than the 1, and the fold-flat tang profile when closed is easier on the knuckles (the Para 1 carriers know what I'm talking about). The only upgrade I'm not taking advantage of is the four position clip, I like the tip down for Spyder drops with the Para anyways.
Sal and the crew, awesome redesign!

I don't have a DLC knife yet, have been thinking about a Para 2 DLC. Thanks for the info, will be interested to see how the black holds up to daily carry and use.
