Polishing Carbon Fiber

#1

Post by Zoldner »

So I just got my first caly 3 a few days ago, the carbon fiber zdp-189 version. The one thing that I think could make it a bit better was if the carbon fiber handles had a finer, higher grit finish. I was wondering if anyone out there has taken some high grit sandpaper to their caly 3 to smooth it out further. What grits should I start with?

I could be COMPLETELY wrong, but I don't think you can just sand carbon fiber to accomplish that. Not really sure though...

Edit - I think I am completely wrong:

Don't breathe the dust in. Wear a mask or work it wet. I usually work it wet. Not that I've done much with cf but when I did I did it wet to trap the dust

Yeah, i was only going to do enough to take out the little grooves you can see. Now that I look at it i may have a tough time with it because I can't take it apart and sanding around the pins may be challenging.
