Escape from New York

Nope, this is not a movie review, sorry if I disappointed you.

Just wanted to let everyone know that, after sixty two years in the Empire State, I decided I'd had enough. Been looking at various places to relocate for over a year and finally settled on the Greenville SC area. Went down there last week, looked at a few existing houses and some that were being built. Signed a contract for one of the later, and it should be ready for my on June 17th. As anyone who's done this can imagine, I'm experiencing a whole gamut of emotions right now. The joy and excitement of having a place of my own again and the worry and stress of packing, filling out mortgage paperwork, and working out the logistics of the move.

My posting will probably be somewhat erratic for the next six weeks, and may be non-existent for a while after that until I get set up in the new digs. But I can now report that 144 small Spyderco boxes fit very neatly in a 12X12X8 box.

Congratulations, Paul. having lived my whole life in St. Louis, save seven childhood years in Charleston, SC, it was exhilarating and liberating to start a new life here in the Pacific Northwest. I trust that your move will have similar good effects. It's hard to leave friends and the comfort of continuity but you are moving to a lovely area and will probably only regret not having done so sooner.

Wow, that's a big move. Congrats on the new house. I always love a little change in my life and hate (at first) a big change. I'm sure you'll love it after a while.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia a while back. The biggest change was that people have a different attitude here.

I think Greenville is a nice area.

Best of luck. I'm sure we'll here more about some other stuff you need to rant about. :)

I heard the house is being built around an 800 square foot Spyderco display area.

Congratulations on the move. Being chased out of a state by the cops is a character building experience. :D You may know this but I'd recommend when closing and having to sign all the mortgage paperwork, try not to look at the page that has a bunch of numbers on it. One is the amount the house cost and the other number is the amount you will have paid after making all those payments. Another thing, I'd like to volunteer to help you pack your Spyderco's. Just leave me alone and you take care of the more important items in your house. :D :D Not many are nice enough to help you with that. :)

Trust me. :p

Too late for that Jack, already looked at the GFE. :o Good news is that despite all that interest, my total monthly payment for the mortgage, taxes, and insurance will only be a 80% of what I'm paying for my apartment and I'll have more than three times as much room.

I just went through a pretty big move myself. It's crazy packing up your whole life and going from A to B, but sometimes change is for the better.

Man, wish you were closer, I'd hook up the trailer and help relocate.

Congrats on the new place.

That is really great Deacon, plus you are actually going to own the place if you stay there that long. Just to give you hope, my mortgage was paid off 2 months ago. Think of the Spidies! :D :D Actually now we are planning some repair/additions to the place. Whatever we do I'll be doing most of the work. I just hope I can find a good quality knife to work with.
