ETA for Dialex Junior and Szabo folder?

#1

Post by Onionman »

Looking through the Amsterdam thread, I have to say that these two knives are my favorites. Does anyone have any idea when they will be available for sale?
The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

I don't think official dimensions...but there is a pic somewhere with a side by side comparison with ________ (something) that should give you an idea.

Japan/VG-10.

No official word on dimensions, but my guesstimate is a 3 1/4" blade. Maybe Alex can tell us?

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Attached are the pics posted by Dialex of the junior next to the millie for comparison on the Amsterdam thread. It looks like the blade is about 4 inches.

For reasons that I can't discern, Alex seems committed to keeping the blade length a secret. C'mon, man: can I carry it in my jurisdiction or not?

There's no secret my friend, I was living under the impression that this question was answered already :o
First of all, thanks everyone for your interest and for your support. I hope you'll like the Junior.
Catamount is right, the blade is 3 1/4" (82 mm) long. Overall length is 7.2" (182 mm).
Made in Seki city, Japan. Blade steel is VG-10, G-10 scales and skeletonized steel liners; featuring Spyderco's excellent compression lock™. Tip up carry wireclip, reversible left / right.
The knife was supposed to hit the market in a couple months, but as we all know the Japanese people are having some hard times so I just pray for them to cope with the disasters they are facing right now.

One thing that I deeply respect Spyderco for is thier refusal to tell thier customers anything about an official release date until it's a done deal. Thier competitions continual failure to adhere to these deadlines is a constant source of frustration.

I, for one, love the fact that Mr. Glesser and crew don't do that to us. :)

The compression lock is fairly ambidextrous

I find that it's the one lock that I have the most trouble with. So far every other Spyderco that I own or have handled I have had no real issue with, but the compression lock just doesn't work for me, it is always a 2 handed closer.

I can close it one handed with my right hand, which is usually useless at just about everything, but not my left.

And since your design is one that I really dig (more than the Para2 that I own) It would be awesome to get one and give it pocket time (the Para2 sits in its box, never carried at all).

Thanks for the update. Wow, I am surprised at the blade length is only 3 1/4 since the comparison pictures you posted make the blade look closer to the size of the military. No matter. I am definitely going to pick one up.

The design looks like it could be scaled up or down actually - if it could be made into a sub 3-inch slip-joint then I would have one in a flash. :)

I'm afraid that such a smaller size would allow only a three fingers grip...

I'm afraid we may have a longer wait for this fine looking knife.
