Please Folks ... Take Good Care!!!

Post by raven »

Hey All, Thought I'd share this bit with you all ...since I'll be laid up for a while  .

As of Saturday January 15, 2011 ... I had a serious misunderstanding with my Heart. Yep, at the age of 42 I had a Heart Attack :( . I was doing a bit of extra duty conducting security for a high school basketball game. I walked outside to do a perimeter check when I got this pain in my chest that felt like someone hit me in the chest with a sledge hammer. Pain was sharp, short of breath, sweating ...the pain went from my chest to my back. It was so intense, it buckled almost to my knees. I managed to suck it up and get my composure back long enough to finish my security gig. I made it home and watched a bit of football, eat, and goof around with the computer.

I went to bed and at about 2:00am to 3:00am I had to get up, because the pain came back and I just couldn't breath. I managed to catch my breath and did some breath control drills to calm myself down and went back to bed. I got up showered and went in for my shift and just didn't feel right. During patrol I decided to go and have my fiancee' check my blood pressure and it was super high, so off to the emergency room I go.

Get admitted, they do an EKG, take X-Rays, and do some blood work. Just when I thought everything was OK, the doctor came in said the EKG was normal, but according to the blood work and enzyme level it proved I had a Heart Attack  . I said; "I Had A What"??? He was as shocked as I was, because he knew I work out a lot and run alot.

I get transported out of town by ambulance to a hospital with a cardiologist department and specialists. I go through all the tests again and they confirm it was a heart attack. I ended up going through an angiogram and had a stent put in one of the main arteries of my heart.

One just never knows ... I thought I was one of the healthiest guys I know. I worked out daily, ran, and watched what I ate. Apparently the condition I have is hereditary  . I never saw this coming, no indication, no warning ...just BAM ...HEART ATTACK!!!

Folks, Please watch your health, watch what you eat, exercise, and check your family medical history if you don't know it. I don't wish this on anybody nor do I want anybody here to ever have to go through what I just did. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always Folks ;)

God Bless :)

Really sorry to hear that. It's scary and frustrating that it can happen to people that work so hard to prevent it. Take it easy and get better.

Wow! You were SO lucky. Folks, when you feel that kind of pain the FIRST time, get your butt to the ER RFN (that means right ****ing now)!

Minutes count. If you have an aspirin nearby... chew one up.

Best wishes to you, Raven. Stay well. And, thanks for sharing your story. It might actually save a life. Men tend to deny such pain as "indigestion" and try to "walk it off." They dismiss it as "nothing." May men DIE as a result (and unnecessarily). It's NOT nothing, of course. Don't dismiss stabbing or crushing pain like that. Get help QUICKLY. Don't drive. Call 911.

Your post hit home pretty hard. Thanks for the reminder that we all need to watch for these things, no matter how tough we think we are. Hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to duty feeling better than ever.

Raven,

I'm glad you recognized you needed to get it checked out. I lost two uncles both then younger than I now am from heart attacks. Sudden ones that took the family by surprise. As it turned out both had events like yours but for whatever reasons ignored and rationalized them away. It hurt the family bad.

Do what you got to do.

BTW, those nitrates/nitro give you a massive headache eh? Joe

**** Gil.. that is crazy. So glad your ok and nothing worse happened. Hope you dont have anymore problems. Take it easy and don't push yourself to hard for a while.

Last year I went to a cardiologist to "rule out" an issue I was having with dizziness. They did rule out my heart as the cause but found an unrelated issue that was caught very early before I was symptomatic. Now I pop a pill every morning and should be ok.

Never know whats going on inside. Scary stuff.

This is one of the most scary story in years....

My father had one less tahn 2 yars ago, but we knew he was searching for it: Bad food, no exercice, lots of stress....

He finally recovered, but like you said, it's written in our genes....

Hope you get by ok and found out how you can prevent another one....

You're so young,

Thank you all for the Well Wishes ...Appreciate It ;) !!!

I think my biggest ignorance of this whole ordeal was not knowing my family medical history. Had I known that ...this may not have happened??? At least I know now and can take all the preventive measures ;) .

@ceya, I've been on this forum for quite some time. I have a different username at the other forums ...RAVEN12 at Knifeforums and ROOK at BF. I know you've been here for a while ...to me that's family ;) .

Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)
