Martial Blade Concepts Seminar in Omaha, NE

#1

Post by Michael Janich »

MBC Associate Instructor Christopher Doner will be presenting a seminar on the fundamental skills of the Martial Blade Concepts system on Saturday, Feb 5th. Chris is a lifelong martial artist with an extensive background and has been a dedicated student of MBC for almost 10 years. He has earned a Certificate of Proficiency in the system and Associate Instructor certification and does an outstanding job of faithfully presenting MBC to his students. I strongly urge anyone interested in learning more about MBC's methods to attend his seminar. Here are the details:

Introduction to Martial Blade Concepts

This course will provide step-by-step instruction in the fundamental skills of using a knife as a defensive weapon, including knife carry, high-speed deployment, recognition and identification of common street attacks, defensive responses, anatomical targeting and the realities of knife stopping power.

Saturday February 5th, 9am - 1pm
Tuition: $75.00

TOPICS OF INSTRUCTION
Carry and high-speed deployment of folding knives
Grips
Basic footwork
Angles of attack
Zones of defense
Anatomical targeting
Defensive responses - MBC 'go to' moves designed to stop an attacker quickly and decisively

If time and student aptitude permit, flow drills will be introduced.

*A folding training knife is highly recommended but not absolutely necessary. I will have some on hand to loan out to participants.

*Payment in full is required to hold a spot for this seminar. Payment must be received by January 28, 2011

*Space is limited

For more information please contact Christopher Doner via email at: kaze-group@cox.net.

Stay safe,

Mike

Is there a 2011 MBC schedule out as yet, and if so are there any pending dates for seminars in Colorado?

Training In Colorado

Post by Michael Rigg »

Best of luck with the seminar Chris. You will rock it!

Mike's schedule is currently very full. We are looking at ways to put on a weekend seminar or two this year in Colorado, but nothing has been firmed up as of yet.

For Colorado residents and those close to Colorado, there are 4 fully certified MBC instructors (and a number of associate instructors) who live in the front range area. Any one of us are more than capable of faithfully instructing seminars, classes, and private lessons in MBC and it's related curriculum's.

If you are waiting to train with Mike Janich, you might have to wait a long time for the opportunity, but if you are interested in training in Mike's system, then get off the couch and contact one of his instructors.

One of Mike's basic tenets is, "You don't have to fight like me, you just have to fight well". When it comes to Mike's instructors the tenet is, "You don't have to fight like me, but you have to teach like me".

A list of all of Mike's instructors can be found at http://www.martialbladeconcepts.com/contact.htm

No time like the present to stop talking about it, and get up and train it.

Best,

MIke

Having trained with Chris he is an excellent practitioner and, as important with respect to instruction, a great communicator.

For those that question "what can I learn in five hours?", while the MBC system includes a wide array of skills and applications the fundamentals can be learned, and a practical level of proficiency gained, in a relatively short period of time. It is a very efficient means of developing useful skills.

Enjoy!

Would you recommend this training seminar for someone with zero background or training or is it best to attend after having a little more experience?

Absolutely.

I don't pretend to speak for Chris but having trained with him for a number of years this seminar is intended to lay the foundation for those with zero experience. In my opinion the system Michael Janich has developed and the teaching methodology he has passed on to instructors like Chris is extremely effective in taking someone with no familiarity with using an edged weapons as a self-defense tool and help them develop useful skills in a short amount period of time.

Now I don't want to make this post sound like a commercial but you can further enhance the benefit of the seminar by purchasing the training DVD "Martial Blade Concepts-The Enhanced Version" from Stay Safe Media. Much of what Chris will be cover is contained in this training video and digesting some of it before the seminar, getting familiar with some of the terminology and concepts, will help you get those most out of the hands on training.

I'll also join the chorus and highly recommend this seminar. Chris is a good guy. Intelligent, articulate and skillful. You will get something out of this seminar. It's a good gateway into the larger volume of training material available from Chris and Mike.

Wow, I'm humbled. Thanks guys! Coming from my colleagues in MBC that means a lot to me. I appreciate the support.

SteelDragon, as Paul (2edgesword) said, this is definately beneficial for people with little to no experience. The seminar will also serve folks who do have prior experience as it will be a solid review. Sometimes seeing the method taught from the basics forward, helps reinforce the students' understanding and put it into a better perspective. Often, in my regular classes we only have a couple hours to train. That time can be less for actual training when you factor in warm ups, administrative duties, time spent in review, etc. The seminar format will allow us more time to explore the skill sets in a chronological order. Those who have had prior exposure to MBC will be able to polish those exisiting skills and add to them.

I've had a prety good response to the seminar. We have 14 people signed up including law enforcement officers from three agencies. One group is coming from out-of-state. Mike, thanks for sending that officer that inquired about training at SHOT Show my way!

The seminar went very well! I have been receiving all kinds of good feedback from those who attended. The guys had a blast and more than a few inquired about future seminars, so they definately want more! We had about 14 people go through and most picked up the skill sets quickly.

I was fortunate to have three experienced MBC players on hand to help out if someone found a sticking point (pun intended) and needed some assistance. Many thanks go out to Thane, JC and Marcus!

Also, thanks to Mike Rigg of Stay Safe Media who provided ten copies of Martial Blade Concepts - The Enhanced Version (DVD) which sold out immediately after the seminar.

Here are some of the comments from those who attended:

"Training was kickass!" - DJ U.

"Had a kick butt time!!! Learned much, especially about how little I know. Can't wait for the next one!" -Evan S.

"We had a blast and learned a lot. We'll be back for sure!" -Eric S.

I would like to find an MBC instructor within reasonable distance of Southern Iowa or maybe there's a schedule of all instructors planned seminars for the year? That way I could see if any are coming to an area near me.
