My P1 and P2 comparison for the weekend:

#1

Post by Chris_Himself »

So my friend Eugene bought a knife today at our local knife store. They had this sale that brought everything to online price. Their selection of spydies wasn't that great but they did have a Para2 in stock.

I finally got him into Spydies by making him admit that despite the differences in looks and ergos, a Spydie will always cut better.

My friend bought it just because I told him the market ran dry on those until December.

Things I like about it:

1) There is like a "boost" to the very last part blade opening because it falls into place on the notch. I actually was wondering if the P2 was assisted and I had totally missed that fact. I hadn't felt this since I tried a Strider SNG. Excellent.
2) The square part of the tang doesn't hang out anymore
3) Lanyard hole
4) Serrations on the thumbramp extend into the handle liners
5) Feels less constrained in your hand. The P1 fits me like a glove, but it's still something you have to jam your hand into right?
6) The blade will shake out downward in reverse grip
7) Pivot screw is now flat and flush mounted to the G10, nicer screws are used to hold the G10 slabs together now as well. Much nicer presentation

Things that didn't quite work for me:
1) The actual end of the choil will hit my finger which does kind of hurt after a few deployments (has this been confirmed yet?).
2) The blade in it's current condition will not quite close and will just wiggle around in it's open detent unless you really swing it on home. (Not quite sure how to explain this?) I'm sure it's partly due to it being very new.
3) Less belly
4) The clip doesn't ride very deep, it carries lower, but there is less clip. I liked the Military clip!

All in all I'm sure that a tip up carrying blade with a useable enhanced lanyard hole is a much much better package. Carrying and using this thing is a blast, it's just that darn tang hitting my index finger when I close the knife has been forcing me to use two hands lately. Well I'm going to hand him his knife back, it's been really good to me, I took it to dinner at a bar where I used it to cut apart some BBQ pulled pork to make sandwiches for people.

I truly enjoy my Para1, I think the next one down the road for me is to trade or buy a Sage 1 maybe if I get money for good grades. I really liked it today when I saw it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this guys!
