Am I cheating?
I've been looking for a boot/ankle knife and I finally got one a few weeks ago. I search for something that I could possibly use from Spyderco but couldn't find anything. I ended up getting the Ka-Bar TDI with Ankle rig. I've been wearing it for a while and it is super comfortable. Blade seems sharp enough and the only time I would really use it is if I had absolutely nothing else or I was disarmed of my Spyderco's. This would be my backup to my backup. (2 spydies and the new ka-bar).
I wish Spyderco made something that would work like this cause I feel like my last resort knife should be a Spyderco...not a Ka-Bar. But something is better than nothing right???
I feel like I'm cheating on Spyderco with a cheap prostitute, but skin is only a few mm deep so it will work.

I don't know, there are things I look for in a fixed blade. It seems like there are some gaps for what I want in a fixed blade and what Spyderco offers in a fixed blade.
I like full tang, I like Carbon steel, I like carry options and sheath options. When I look for a fixed blade, I am usually looking to ESEE.
You know what I get confused about? Everyone says you don't want stainless steel on a fixed blade. Almost everyone uses Carbon Steel on a fixed blade. The Hossom's Steel is 'like VG-10', and I don't ever see anyone using VG-10 on a hard user fixed blade like the Hossom line. Not saying it won't work great, it's just conflicting information.

WHAT!?! conflicting info regarding knives?!!? NEVER!Donut wrote: Not saying it won't work great, it's just conflicting information.
There are so many uses/users/whims that there are very few rules in making good knives. I can think up a couple really quick examples of where I would demand stainless for a fixed blade (salt water fishing, diving, and neck knives for concealment).
Cheating by getting the right knife for your needs and wants? NO. The fact that you are sharing it here shows that you still respect and support the Spyderco brand...but I do not think any true knife nut can claim to be such without ever experiencing offerings from more than one maker.

From the pics on the web that Ankle rig looks pretty nice, would be nice to see some pics of it strapped on if you ever get a chance. I wasn't sure about the angled handle on the knife but I suppose it has to be that way to fit and work right. You never know when that rig may be the only thing you can reach so it's always good to be prepared.smikesmith3 wrote: I ended up getting the Ka-Bar TDI with Ankle rig. I'm sure no one here is offended. I own gerber knives, buck knives, victorinox, etc. However, i will always pick up my endura if i want a knife that will do what it really needs to do. It always surpasses my expectations, no matter what i'm doing. I'm not cheating, i just don't want to use a beautiful blade to beat up on.

No your not cheating....Spyderco is not the only knife company out there....even Sal has knives from other companies (shhhhh I didn't say that!)
Fact is one company does not make all the knives that one might need. Spyderco is one of the best companies out there with a superior product line, that being said I enjoy other kinds of knives from other companies that fit my needs, where Spyderco can not accommodate me with. So that can't really be cheating. One might say it's more like going outside the box.....Doc :D

Yea, please people... You are not "married" to a knife company, nor did you make a confession of faith.
I am sure it does not make some folks around here happy, but I buy lots of knives from lots of companies. And more than likely STILL buy more Spyderco knives in a year than most on this forum.
It's all good... :)

I'm wondering if you are married or have a girlfriend. You know, the human being female kind. If so, would you feel as guilty if you thought you had been a little unfaithful to her as you feel about cheating on Spyderco? If you feel guiltier about cheating on your Spyderco knives you have my vote for Spyder nut king. After all we do need to keep our priorities in order don't we?smikesmith3 wrote:I've been looking for a boot/ankle knife and I finally got one a few weeks ago.
