I've thought about it before but I don't really think it needs a choil. One refinement I would like to see on the Ten is something similar to the Persistence, is to make the ricasso longer. When closing the blade I find the Per is easier to close than the Ten due to more ricasso showing.

That would really be a completely new model. The forthcoming G-10 Byrd Catbyrd is pretty darn close to what you are asking for.

Thank you for replies.
I hate to think about lock failing and blade closing on the index finger. Looks like it would work mechanically to extend the unsharpened area 1/4" further from the handle.

The Ten has a very robust liner lock. It shouldn't fail unless you are doing something unwise.

If I recall one of the things tenacious was going for is to have as much edge length as possible for the blade/handle size, having a choil would defeat that point.

Sal has said the Tenacious "family" of knives was designed to match the preferences of a certain group of buyers who wanted inexpensive knives with as much edge length as possible on the blades. As has been mentioned, several of the Byrd models combine low cost and a choil. Of course, at some point, they may decide there is sufficient market for a Spyderco branded knife with those qualities and add it to the lineup.

No, it doesn't make sense. Not everything with a blade and a handle needs a choil.
Im not good at sharpening, even with a sharpmaker. How get your blade good can your blade with an edge pro system? - Bladeforums user

Sure there are some things that don't need a choil. And others that do.
It would allow here choke hold for greater accuracy.

I agree that not every knife needs a choil, but oddly enough every knife I love has one

It isn't a question of knives needing or not needing a choil. It's a question of user preferences and not all users want the same things.

I strongly prefer folding knives with usable 50/50 choils, to the point where I will not carry a knife that does not have one. Spyderco makes dozens of models that have one, so those who share my preference and I have plenty to choose from.

But there are other people with an equally strong preference for knives where the cutting edge runs the entire length of the blade. Those folks will not purchase a knife that "wastes" blade length on a choil. The Tenacious family of knives (Tenacious, Persistence, Resilience) was designed to appeal to them.
