pet peeve

Post by gmand16 »

Maybe I am just anal, but one of my biggest pet peeves is when people notice my millie, ask to see it (I love showing it off as I am sure majority of you are the same way), and they insist on touching the blade and getting their finger prints and oils all over it.

Are you guys the same way?

I hate when they test the edge and cut themselves and say OMG ITS SO SHARP.

I'm a self-confessed germaphobe. As such, I do not let anyone under any circumstance touch my knives.

So, yeah, you could say I'm the same way.

Maybe I am slightly sadistic, but I find it rather comical. The lack of common sense baffles me. What on earth did you think rubbing your finger down the blade would do? If they do not get cut, it is not sharp, if they do, then it comes as a shock.

Before I let anyone touch any of my :spyder: 's I warn them " be careful, it's very very sharp". Haven't had a friend cut themself yet. They know now all of my knives are very sharp, and if handled improperly, dangerous.

Fingerprints don't bother me though, a couple of wipes against my pants or a polishing cloth takes them right out :)

I should rephrase what I said above, I warn people about it being sharp, but incredulously they decide to go up and down the blade anyway.

If they do that a few times hopefully they'll learn not to. Sharp blades demand respect or they will hurt you :D

Don't mind the finger prints as much as the blood and potential damage when they drop the knife. ;) :D

Men are ten times worse than women in that regard, maybe more. Don't recall a woman ever ignoring a warning not to touch the edge or try to close the knife. Men, on the other hand, seem to automatically assume they know what they're doing. Yeah, right.

I'm sure years were knocked of the life on my orange millie when a "friend" looked at it and really tried to push the liner lock over to the other side to try to release it. I didn't notice right away, or there would've been blood and teeth on the floor right then. It was when I got home that I found that the engagement which was around 30 percent was already at about 50 percent. So yes, no more NKP are touching my knives.

Man...i had this dirty old drunk guy at work ask to see my Caly 3, and i stupidly did...he thumbs the blade and says "**** that's sharp", licks his arm and proceeds to shave INCHES of hair off, and there's this nasty spit/hair mixture all over my blade. He wipes it on his jeans and hands it back to me.

I promptly sanitized the **** out of the whole knife.

I let people use my Tenacious or my Byrds. People generally don't even know that I have a "good" knife on me.

I've actually never had that happen to me, but it would be a cool way to start talking about Spydies. Nowadays almost everything gets carried inside my pocket because I dislike wire clips & remove it so even less chance of that happening. Finger prints wouldn't bother me but I would really hesitate to let someone use it.

I am a germophobe about people borrowing my pens/pencils, though.. and also my computer. When I get it back its always warm from their body and half the time I watch them lick their fingers before they use the pencil or go to type on my computer. Really annoying.

My go to response is, "Thanks, it never hurts to have a second set of prints on a blade."

Exactly the same way. With all of my knives. I hate when they try to wrist flick them. I stopped letting a couple of people see my knives after I handed one in particular my CRK Umnumzaan and he immediately tried to wrist flick it then I warned him and HE KEPT TRYING. I was pissed lol Same thing with my military and odly enough my dodo's lol

I then take the knife away and lovingly clean it with whatever is closest and put it safely away in my pocket! :D

I know I'm anal but hey. I pay good money for my high quality tools and I don't want someone else to muff em all up!

I get pissed when I do end up showing someone my EDC, they immediately try to flick it open with big exagerated motions.

I tell them to stop as soon as I can because of the lock bar pins, but it happened recently to a very large folder of mine.

Guy wiped it out and the knock, not "Thwack" was loud. Pivot and lock bar pin were F'd.

Sold it a week later at a very reduced price.

I hate when people hand me back an open knife because they don't know how to close it. But sometimes it's a good thing...
My mom bought a Citadel at a gun show a few years ago. Mom's cool like that, she likes Sigs and auto knives. Anyways we were at her house when she showed me and my sister. My sister opened it and didn't know how to close it. She pressed the button and folded the blade against the waterbed  It was hilarious.

Do you tell people that when they ask to use it? If so, do they argue further? I'm not a germaphobe, but I may have to use that as an excuse the next time someone asks for my knife because I suspect that ends the conversation.

I'm to the point where I don't let people borrow my knives.

Had one guy long ago ask to borrow a knife. I handed mine to him. A few seconds later when I looked over to him, he was using the tip of the blade to tighten the screws in his glasses. Before I could say anything he handed the knife back to me. Yep, he certainly screwed up the tip.

And, I, too, had someone ask to see my knife and upon handing it to him warned him it was sharp. He opened the big folder with a grin and proceeded to run his thumb along the length of the edge. There was a sudden look of shock in his facial expression as he quickly handed the knife back to be to close. Fortunately for him, he apparently applied just enough pressure to allow the edge cut deep enough without drawing blood.

I'm with ya on that I can't stand when someone does a inertia opening on a good knife. On a lock back it beats the lock bar to death, and on a liner lock or comp lock it beats the lock pin to death. All this wrist flicking is for is just to look cool, besides if I need to open my knife quickly I can thumb flick it so fast you would think I had a switchblade(which is not good on a knife either). ;)
