MT-04 (ZDP-189) Warranty Question

#1

Post by JNewell »

The recent thread about a broken tip on a Stretch brought back to mind the situation with the MT-04 Mules. This may be a question for Sal or Kristi - I thought it'd been answered but I'm not finding it in the archives. The question is, for "first quality" MT-04 blades, does the standard factory warranty apply? If there is a warranty problem (cracked blade, for example a crack at the Spyderhole), since there are no replacements, how would the warranty be handled?

They would give you credit towards something else.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Can't speak for Spyderco, but imagine it would be the same as for any model that's no longer available. Customer would have the choice of keeping the knife, as is, or getting a credit usable at SFO for its MSRP.

Those would be my guesses, too - yes on warranty, fulfilled via credit.

I haven't read any reports of broken MT-04 blades in quite a while...which is good. Or maybe everyone stashed them back in the boxes and no one's using them???

I've used mine quite a bit. No problems so far. I've cleaned and butchered several deer along with used it camping.

I'm guilty of stashing... but not for the lack of trying... Just too many other mules that I'm trying to abuse first. kinda difficult IMO

This is thread-creep, but hey, it's my thread :D - how's it working for you, especially compared to any others you've tried?

No problems with mine so far but it is restricted to kitchen duties now- if it was doing more field work things could different (see my original ZDP/S35vn mule review.)
