On a side note I just used my craftsman hammer to open my mail, the darn thing could barely cut paper. Who designs these things?

I think your whacked....Your test must have a flaw....cause this has not been my experience....try using butter as your test medium, no need to even warm the butter to achieve proper results.....Doc :p

I think if these types of posts are digs at Jankerson, they are in poor taste. He is a very stand-up, nice guy.

HotSoup it's not a jab at anyone in particular, but that particular test proves nothing but that a person is using the wrong side of the blade to cut. If whoever you are talking about likes to test his or her knives in a abusive manner than that is fine......let them potentially cut their fingers off. If the particular person was using the knife in the correct manner they would probably never have a problem. Companies design tools to be used In the correct manner, for instance I own many Snap-On tools .They happen to put a warning on their screwdrivers that says "Not a Prybar or Chisel" does this mean it is a inferior screwdriver......No it does not. They make Prybars for prying, as Spyderco makes knives for cutting, not whacking the blade opposite the way the lock was designed to hold the blade open.

Hey Doc, I think I will test my Hair dryer while sitting in a tub of water .......think I'll get shocked......nah the warning label on the cord means nothing. ;)

I think the operative word there is "heavy use knife". The point of this thread is that knives are for cutting, not blunt impact. Whether or not the Manix qualifies as "heavy use" (which is a highly subjective term), I think most people will agree that smacking the spine against hard objects with force is not what the knife was designed for.

edit:sorry if that sounded at all combative, I just wanted to point it out. I think there's value in everyone's opinion, and the truth generally lies somewhere in between.
