found a bunch of discontinued models locally

#1

Post by louism7 »

I visited a knife shop outside of New Orleans yesterday called Alpine Cutlery and they had a bunch of discontinued Spyderco's. I saw an ATR VG 10 Ocelot plain edge and Ocelot combo edge they had an original Manix 80mm with combo edge. I saw a Spyker, Adventura , Karambit VG10 and the two Military models I saw were CPM 440V and had some writing on the blade like a special edition?? One of them was plain edge and the other was combo. I don't remember other models but there were quite a few. They have two store locations but the one I went to was in Metairie Louisiana 504 833 8332

I know there are a number of us out there that favor some of the discontinued models and thought leaving this message would benefit some collector.

i think i bought one of their last dodos a year or so ago. the guy was telling me to come down to see what they had but it was kind of a long drive  . for anyone that lives close i would guess it would be worth the drive.

Follow up regarding Metairie knife store

I live across the lake from New Orleans and the store was on the unaffected/non flooded side of the 17th St Canal. Their prices are not great but I noticed over the years their inventory has dwindled down I would think they would not turn down offers but you never know. I would ask for free shipping as a break in price. It had been about two years since I have been in the store and their inventory is much smaller than the past. I think one of the owners left after a divorce and they don't keep a fraction of what they used to have. They also have another location in Covington across the lake and they probably took some of the Metairie store inventory and simply split it with the other store. If they don't have the model your are looking for I would ask them for the other store number and try that location as well. But if you are looking for a certain Spyderco or other brand for a particular discontinued model there is a chance they may have it. About three years ago I purchased three Spyderco Starmates that they had and they had been long discontinued.

not that water really affects Spyderco knives....LOL...not implyingthat it's ever ok to abuse knives but my I gave my landscaper a ZDP-189 Endura and he accidentally left it in a bucket of water at the close of last summer and didn't find it until this April, when he emptied the bucket and found it at the bottom, No damage or corrosion! A quick wash and a spray with silicone spray made it as good as new. :D
