TrayApp

#1

Post by fret »

When I turn on my pc up pops a "WindowsInstaller" then it loads then up pops "TrayApp" and tries to load. I cannot find anything about this and it only can be taken off the desktop by hitting "Ctrl" "Alt" "Delete" and telling that pop up box to "end program". Any ideas of how to get rid of this? I have run virus scans and Windows Defender and they say all is working well and no virus found. I have Windows XP on Emachines. Thanks ahead of time.

Do you know what the TrayApp is or where it came from? Is that the name of the .exe?

You could try to stop it from loading by running the command msconfig (in Start > Run; the location of Run could be different depending on your version of windows) and disabling it under the startup tab.

Did you recently install an HP printer?

It says "Insert the TrayApp disk and click". I tried a disk but nothing happened. I tried to track it down but I cannot find it anywhere on the pc. I use the ctrl alt delete and click "end now". I will try the msconfig. and see if I can find the origin of it. Thanks.

From what I've read, it's associated with HP printers. If you have one installed, then TrayApp should be on the disk that came with the printer. If not, you don't need it and can remove the program or process which is looking for it from your startup queue.

My pc crashed. Froze up. I tried everything and finally put in three of the disks I made when I got the pc. It sounded like a noise like it was running. But I think it was just letting me be able to read what's on the disks? Anyways , I deleted some programs, like Google Picaso and the AOL info bar. Now the pc seems to be working ok. Took a long time tho. I did put an HP printer on the Emachines pc. But since everything is working now, I think I will wait and see for awhile. Thanks for the info and I will go to the site and read about it. I am not very literate when it comes to pc's. Old age I guess?
