Hard,harder,hardest to find
Hard,harder,hardest to find
As you all can see I,m not a member for a long time.
Every day I learn more about other models, older models and I was wondering, what models are hard to find, harder and the hardest to find?
I like to compare with Europe, here I sometimes see models that have been discontinued for a long time, probably hard to sell overhere and maybe easy in the US.
So surprise me and maybe I can surprise you by telling it,s still available overhere  :D

In the Netherlands there are lots of discontinued knives in the knife stores.
They are sold out for a long time at the Usa shops but they won't sell at the Dutch shops.
Only problem is the real high price and Usa members will probably don't want to pay the big prices they ask here.
For example:
the foliage green big manix (1) was still available at a shop recently.
Asking price was 200 euro. That would be about 245 dollars. If this has to be shipped to Usa you have to spent 15-25 euro(or more).
so the knife will be about 260-270 dollars.

That's probably around what it would cost here. Plus, here, I've found that NIB--New In Box--is a term USED loosely--so there's a better than even chance that knives sold through ebay or even through afi sites are not exactly NIB. Therefore, to get that knife at that price which is actually unused doesn't seem out of line at all.Jijoel wrote: the foliage green big manix (1) was still available at a shop recently.

If you ever come across an ATR in Titanium with a plain edge for that price, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. :)
What is "Hard,harder,hardest to find?"
All depends on the depth of the pocket and dedication. We used to have one member here few years ago, within about six month he got most of "hardest to find". Dodos, not a problem. Quite a few of them were sold on e-bay recently for over $300.Chopping Broccoli wrote:Can you find Yojimbos and/or Dodo's?

Not to sound too pragmatic but with the frequent sprints and similar models it often pays to wait and pounce. I would pay an extra 50% for a discontinued Spydie but 200-300% is hard to justify. That the land of semi-customs.
We all have grails to hunt. I just have to really think hard when it gets close to the $200 mark (in the states).

Actually, this one was not that hard to find. I've only been collecting Spydies since March of last year, and I have this one. It did cost a little more, but it wasn't too bad. :Dxdshooter wrote:How about the stainless Rescue Jr?

the rarest ones are the ones that spyderco didnt make alot of. Sprint runs, kitchen knives and higher priced knives (titanium models or the dinosaur scale model, was it the executive or a worker???i forget:confused :) Other knives became very popular shortly after they are discontinued, for example spyderco made a decent number of dodos but everybody is holding on to them now. the persian are in the same boat. When they were discontinued you could have had those models for $75-100, now they are commanding alot more cash to buy them. here are some rare/expensive knives that i can think of off the top of my head:
all kitchen knives, steel bolstered even more so (i have only seen one for sale)
Dino bone executive
white FRN rescue
Anniversary Delica
Original CF Walker
Yojimbo
Endura 3 wave
Endura 4 with Sal's signature
Original Zowada in PE
Shabaria in PE
Blue Chinese Lum..really all the older Lums
Endurahawk
WTC
certain models of the Kopa, mainly cocobolo
Evolution set of the worker
Spyker
Ronin
Old CF models
original szabofly in VG10 steel
dodo
thats all i got...i know i am probably missing at least another 10-20 knives.

I got offered a probe just a few weeks ago. Jot khalsa are not that rare I have had a chance to buy many, but the whale rescue blade would be pretty impossible since they aren't made for the public.spoonrobot wrote:Most of the more recent models, say from 2000-present, aren't difficult to find at all. They're just very expensive.
Hard: Probe/Mini Probe
Harder: Pre-Diver
Hardest: Jot Singh Khalsa, Whale Rescue Blade.

Above are the only ones I have never come across, most others are not that hard to find. Affordability is another question though.
If you wait long enough everything will come to you at a price you can't believe. I got a PE Civi coming which was $200. :)
