Can you flick open a UK pen knife, or a Urban? I was thinking about gettin one but don't want one if you can not flick it open.

The UKPK is a one hand opening knife, it can not be flicked open. It is however a GREAT EDC knife.

The pressure of the back-spring against the tang tends to make them a bit harder to open than other Spydercos :) I usually have to adjust the pivot to be able to open them one-handed, but I have arthritic thumbs so I am a bit of a weakling :D

Pretty near absolutely sure that one goal when developing the UKPK was to create a knife that COULD NOT be flicked open so that people in nanny nations can enjoy spydercos too.

There's nothing in UK law that would prevent you carrying a flick-able non-locking penknife under 3-inches in blade length - only lockers could cause a problem*. But I think the problem is more mechanical in that a non-locking blade needs to be held open firmly by a strong back-spring and deep detent, which means that the blade isn't free to open or close easily.

* Customs have been seizing locking Spydercos recently, claiming that the easy blade opening (by holding the blade and spydie-dropping it) qualifies them as a gravity knife

It can be flicked but you need a far more deliberate effort than the locking knives.

Both of my Urban's are very stiff. No way I could "flick" them by my flicking standards.
