Fixed blades

Post by ssmtbracer »

Many of you have fixed blades I am sure but I am not sure if I can justify having one I am one who does not really collect knives I do have a few but I use them all even the sprint run knives. I live in a fairly urban area and don't really do much out doors as far as camping or anything I do ride my bike quite a bit I have a Pacific salt I carry with me when on the bike. So my question is do you guys have a lot of fixed blades that you rarely carry or you may not own any at all like me.

I don't have a need for a fixed blade although I have 2 ka bars, a Warrior, and a Scrapyard Regulator and Busse Boss Street on the way. I do collect, more than use. Don't have many uses here in NYC for knives in general except for opening letters and boxes. You should get a solid fixed blade. What are you going to do when the zombies are scratching at your door?

I own an Aqua Salt PE, Buschcraft, Mule Team 05, Caspian I, Kumo, and an ESEE Izula. I've used the Izula for daily use because it's pretty small. Aqua gets taken camping when I get to go. Mule gets used sometimes in the kitchen. I use a folder more than a fixed blade though.

I've got a Ronin, Street Beat, and the Black Perrin. I'm more of a fixed blade guy. I also have a Warrior on the way in a sheath from Mike Sastre. I have quite a few other FB's but I was limiting my post to Spydies.

I have a Hossam Forester that sees use with some frequency, a Caspian that sees 70-100 scuba dives per year, a Cold Steel SRK that I liked in hand but less in use, a few old skinning knives handed down, a mora, and I have a custom Bushcrafter en route from Brian Andrews (Off the Map Outfitters). All of my fixed blades see regular use.

Of course, not a single day has gone by in the past two years that I didn't also have at least one folder on me...

And I am absolutely DYING to buy a Spyderco Bushcraft (the next one with wood and 01 will be mine) and a Temperance 2. I also intend to add a Street Beat and a Moran drop point. And people wonder why I'm broke? Sheesh!

Wherever legal, I have a fixed blade on me. Normally it's one of the Mules that I've put a handle on, but one occasion I've put a Moran, Temperance 1 or Aqua Salt on instead. I need to make some Kydex for my Swick 2 - it's a very nice little blade.

BTW, my signature needs updating. I think it's 21 or 22 now. I'm quite the fan of Spyderco's fixed blades.

Although I have a CS Mini-Bushman, mainly bought out of curiousity, I consider myself as having only one fixed blade.....a Becker BK-7. With that sharpened prybar at my side, I don't need anything else.
