Can you see it ... ;)

Everything else on this knife is perfect! Affordable, lightweight, good steel, great looking grind, legal almost everywhere and available in multiple colors and blade shapes.

Is that a different clip for higher carry?

How's that texturing do, grip-wise? I was a bit surprised not to see the raised bi-directional pattern that's been on all the other recent FRN handle molds.

yes, with a clip from a Dodo - it gives a bit more knife to grab when pulling it out of my pocket. :)

I think it's perfect. More than enough for the knife. The bi-directional like on the Delica would have been to much in my opinion. It resembles a course G-10 finish. I really like how they positioned the flat surface of the bug 'underneath' the clip so that it doesn't wear out your pockets as much as the G-10 version does.

Really, I think this is a perfect knife for its targeted audience.

I understand that desire. It is one of my favorite aspects of the Yojimbo. I have a couple of other knives I want to sit higher out of the pocket like that as well. Just want to add that your knife looks great. :)

I've been waiting for an affordable gift knife to intoduce people to spyderco. This certainly appears to be it. And EDC wise, it doesn't get much better than the caly3/ukpk form factor.

Can't wait to stockpile a couple of each to start getting more people hooked!

Me, I'll take a blue drop point please!

I love the thinking that goes into Spyderco's FRN knives. Anyone ever notice the clip always rests on the :spyder: logo: the smoothest, least pocket ripping part of the handle?

I was curious how the backspring was held in place since it isn't as long as on the G-10 model and it has only one screw. Well, see the picture below - what a smart design!

Image

Just 11 parts

Three identical pins and screws (6)
Blade (1)
Scales (2)
Clip (1)
Spring (1)

The washers are integrated into the scales (similair to the FRN Delica 3 generation if I remember correctly).

Brilliant construction! Should make handle swapping fairly easy! Here's hoping a Golden Made FRN Urban is next.

Another tweak

On this grey one, the lock resistance was a bit less then on another one I've held. The slip joint lock is I think slightly different form the G-10 model. The cutout in the blade is larger and basically, the slip joint effect is created by a 'just barely engaging' lock. The G-10 is more of a 'notch joint' as it has been called with just a shallow cut out in the blade and a 'notch' on the lock bar.

Anyway, what I did is that I filed a bit of the lock bar here

Image

with my (brown) sharpmaker rods and polished with the fine ones (white).

Not as much as marked in the picture of course but just enough to have a bit more engagement. It's too dark to take pics now but I hope it is clear enough.

Result: much more resistance when unlocking but still a slip-it!

i was just looking at the pics above and was thinking that you could do that..lol. great pics Ted as usual and i like the design, simple and efficient. i am glad i am not collecting slippies because i can see :spyder: making a ton of variations with blade steel/type and handle colors.
