The wave feature works basically like clockwork. If you use it as it was intended, that is. Right pocket, forward opening, whatever. It's amazing how well the wave opener works. Spyderco really did some testing on this model. Sweet knife. I admit I haven't used it for daily tasks, but I actually carried it at the front of my right pocket (as was intended) but I added a wildcard and actually carried a Mil at the rear of the same pocket. Never had a problem using the Mil while still carrying the Pickle on the very same pocket. Now GETTING into that pocket for anything besides a knife was a different strory, but carrying two Spydies in one pocket, no matter what the conventional wisdom might say, IS doable. Trust me. :)

I've messed with out and it works great. Nice knife too with the skeletonized liners and the CBBL. FFG S30V isn't bad either. Feels pretty nice in the pkal grip and reverse edge grip/saber grip edge up. I'll get one eventually along with the trainer so my buddy and i can practice drills and what not

When I first saw it, I didn't think much of it until I was shown how it's quickly deployed. After trying it a few times, I fully understood the purpose of this knife. I picked it up and practiced with it for quite a while. Now I can deploy it very fast and carry it as my defense knife when I need to. Glad I got one.

P'Kal is the knife that converted me to this company. I bought it on a wild whim--I was researching martial blades--Karambits--and somehow ended up seeing a P'Kal video.
Wow, what a knife. It's just magic. Probably my favorite spyderco to date (though ATR Ti may have eclipsed the P'kal and moved to top of my list)
One of many features that distinguish this knife is the ability to remove the wave pin and open like a regular spydie--you just never know,... The pin is threaded and screws into the top of the blade. I've never had a problem with the pin loosening.
Also, there is a thread around here somewhere about the tip up carry of this knife contributing to injury. I was personally "bitten" by my P'kal due to partial deployment in my pocket. I suspect that I didn't close it all the way and/or my keys tangled with the wave pin and when I removed keys, knife partially opened. If I keep knife all the way toward crotch side of pocket (probably better for deployment anyway), this hasn't happened. The blade is very slightly concave, get a sharpmaker. I love this knife.

I have held and operated a p'Kal which worked flawlessly even though I was not super experienced.

Great knife. Love my P'Kal! Found it opened by itself on two occasions while wearing short pants. Never opened by itself on me while in Levis (denim) pocket.
Great knife regardless!

IMHO one of the best special purpose knives produced by Spyderco. Carried correctly, i.e. carried in the correct type of pants pocket (not all pocket designs are ideal for this knife) and close to the crotch, it should never open in your pocket. Watch the tutorials here:

Have fun and be safe...

Nice video on the P'Kal draw but I prefer to carry mine straight down on the other end of the pocket. When I deploy, I pull the knife out with a clockwise twist with the wave catching the pocket liner opening the knife. Then I rotate the knife in the same manner as in the video ready for use. I don't like the position of the knife in the video as I'll definitely catch the knife as I put things in and out of the pocket. I just keep it tucked as far right in the pocket as possible. Works for me.
