Hops Chops
Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of beer. Just wondering what some of your favorites are and why you like them. Bring em on and review them.

La Chouffe
Beer is proof that GOD loves us!
I am fond of Belgium beers, mostly Tripel varieties. My favorite go-to beer is La Chouffe. Easy drinkin' and it packs a punch.
"LA CHOUFFE is an unfiltered blonde beer, which is re-fermented in the bottle as well as in the keg. It is pleasantly fruity, spiced with coriander, and with a light hop taste. 8% alc./vol."

So I am really trying to improve/expand myself on the beer front. My friends are always on my *** for drinking either Bud Ice, Corona or Shiner Bock...especially the Bud Ice but whatever. Anyway last week I grabbed a 6 pack of Flying Dog Old Scratch and I liked it a lot. At first it was a bit strong but after awhile it really tasted pretty good.
I cracked open a Bud Ice after I had one and it tasted pretty bad. So I was interested in what others liked. I just got back from the local store and built a couple of 6 packs that include:
Shiner Frost
Stone smoked porter
Real Ale coffee porter
Sam Adams Imperial Stout
Sierra Nevada pale ale and torpedo
Saint Arnolds Lawnmower
Dog Fish Head 90 minute
Youngs double chocolate stout
So later on I might hate these but if I drink enough of them I might not care. Hope I didn't make too bad of choices.

As for big companies I love Guinness and Samuel Adams. My favorites include a chocolate oatmeal stout from Trout River Brewery (Lyndonville, Vermont) 'Alala (crow) porter from Mehana Brewing Company (5 minutes from my house in Hilo), Wailua Wheat Ale from Kona Brewing Company, and Maui Brewing Company makes an amazing beer when they take their coconut porter and age it in rum barrels. They call it the "Black Pearl". Oh and how can I forget about Sierra Nevada's Big Foot barely wine? I love that.

I stay far, far away from mass market American beers (ie. Bud, Bud light, Miller and the related swill). Give me good imports or microbrews and I'll be a happy boy.
Magic Hat, Sweetwater 420, and the Highlands beers (brewed right down the road in Asheville, NC) are at the top of my list right now.
I love beer. I don't drink it to get drunk or even buzzed, I just love beer.

I don't either I just really like the taste of beer. I saw that Magic Hat at the store today. Maybe I'll give a try next time I'm down there.Psychopomp wrote:I stay far, far away from mass market American beers (ie. Bud, Bud light, Miller and the related swill). You'll probably find most, if not all, of them in a well stocked beer store. Not likely to find them in the supermarket. Only exception to that around here would be the Long Trail, but that's probably just because Vermont is only a few miles from here.Bluntrauma wrote:I haven't heard of most of those. My own tastes are all over the place.
Spaten Optimator
Ommegang Witte
Franziskander Hefe Weisse
Leinenkugel Suset Wheat
Brown's Brewing Pale Ale (and pretty much any of their other beers)

Usually end up drinking Great Western Pilsner or Premium. Brewed right downtown, and from what I can tell it's not sold outside of western Canada.
Rickard's Red, Keith's (red, IPA, white), any stout I can get my hands on... even a Coors Light once in a while.

That Dogfish Head 90 is also a favorite of mine. I'm blessed to have a good beer distributor in Pa., run by a bunch of dedicated "hop heads."

I enjoy the hefs from the local micro pub. If I were to pick something up at our local Rosauers, I'd be partial to any of several bock-style beers. Stella Artois and Blue Moon are summertime faves. The other night I had a Kona Longboard Lager that had a buttered popcorn finish to it.
Years ago I had Levitation Ale, from Stone breweries. I've been looking for it ever since but have yet to come across it locally.

Those are some pretty esoteric suds! Thanks for disabusing me of the notion that I have a good beer store!
