Thniking about a CF collection

#1

Post by mmyron1 »

So I am thinking about starting a collection of carbon fiber models. I was thinking of starting with a Sage or Native. I love the looks of the carbon fiber Spyderco uses.

I know there are a ton and I could easily do a search by that but what do you guys think are some more great carbon fiber models? Mostly for some to just look at and also possible carry knives when the Para is just not the right fit for my attire.

Really like the looks of the Sage so I think that would be my first.

I would recommend getting a Caly 3 carbon fiber with ZDP-189 steel. It can be found for a great price right now.

I think an entire CF collection would be quite an accomplishment. I only have a few and the thought did cross my mind until I researched......

Good luck and I agree you should start with the CF caly 3

Delica and Endura are great knives! They're the low priced crack samples that'll get you hooked on spyderco! Feed the need!

Hope you gots some deep pockets. This could get spendy!
Snatch up a Superhawk now before they are gone. That one alone will be a $300 knife in the not too distant future. ;)
I scored a CF Cricket a last week. They are getting hard to find.

the entire CF collection would be cool in one picture, some specific models might cost you a pretty penny too when you come to the find and purchase, thinking about the CF Civilian :eek:

If you're looking for a CF knife to use, the Stretch II is the pick of the litter.

This might be a tall order to ask of someone, but does anyone out there have a complete list of all Spydies that have been made in carbon fiber thus far? I tried doing the sort by handle material search on the main Spyderco catalog page but that only brings up 11 knives. I know there is WAY more than that. I'm thinking there might be closer to 30 or so.

If I were to start a carbon fibre collection would start with the Sage, seen both the Sage and Caly, and in my opinion the Sage is a far better knife, also if ou can pick one up why not give the Tmag a shot great knife.

Two others very much worth considering right now would be the CF Kiwi and Kopa. Both can be found at absurdly low prices. Because their scales are domed, while all the other Spyderco CF models use flat slabs, they show off a different aspect of the carbon fiber's weave.

Yet another route to take, if you purchase the Sage, would be to pick up the Terzuola SlipIt and Gayle Bradley folder in the future, both of which use the same type of CF it uses. Sort of a family within a family.

We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Some that are "on sale" now:

Sage CF;
Stretch CF;
Superhawk;
Native CF;
Caly CF;
Kopa CF.

All of the above are being discontinued except the Sage.

Must haves:

Manix 2 CF;
Gayle Bradley folder;
at least one of the three Millie CF sprint runs;
Police CF...

Of those, only the Bradley is still available.

Then there is the upcoming Millie M4 with a Ti/CF handle from KnifeWorks, but it sold out already.

To collect all of CF models not easy task. Quite a few of them discontinued expensive and difficult to find. I would start with models, which just discontinued. Native4, Kopa, Superhawk, and Kiwi right now can be found at ridiculous price.
Good prices for Sage and Caly3, but these knives can be bought later. Also I would chase T-Mag. I saw it recently around $90.
Good luck

The Caly 3 CF isn't being discontinued either (it's in the recently posted 2010 catalog).
