Couple years back, while the highest number was still below 100 there was a lot of discussion as to which model "deserved" to be Model 100. As with many discussions, there were a number of different and strongly held views. Think perhaps Spyderco decided it was best to just leave it vacant.

Well, I guess one has to expect some unbridled passion and contentiousness when it comes to an urgent and divisive topic like model numbers. The Deacon wrote:Couple years back, while the highest number was still below 100 there was a lot of discussion as to which model "deserved" to be Model 100. Can you say "obsessive compulsive" boys and girls? I knew you could!
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

Until you mentioned it, I never even realized that there was a blank spot in between the Volpe (C99) and the Mini Manix (C101). And I call myself a Spyderco enthusiast *embarrassed*

contrary to what others might feel i think that 100 is a milestone and it should be celebrated w.something out the ordinary..the folks at :spyder: always think outside the box..its not the 13th floor for goodness sakes..there can't be a gap..like a book skipping a chapter..you always want to know what happened..

That might have more validity if Spyderco had used a strict sequential numbering system for all its knives up to that point. However, even if you choose to ignore the fixed blades, there were folders "outside" the number sequence. The Mini Mariner, Spyderkeys, Ladybug, Jester, Mini Police, SpyderCard, and Mouse come to mind. So 100 as a model number would not really have marked a milestone.hardkiss wrote:contrary to what others might feel i think that 100 is a milestone and it should be celebrated w.something out the ordinary..the folks at :spyder: always think outside the box..its not the 13th floor for goodness sakes..there can't be a gap..like a book skipping a chapter..you always want to know what happened..
FWIW, quite a few folks felt as you do, am sure some feel that way still.

We're so far beyond the #100 now that I am pretty sure the C100 will never come. Well, the C101 Mini Manix in hindsight would have earned it to get the model number 100... isn't it?
That said, I don't really care that much. Model #101 or #11 or #111 is just as striking as #100 IMO, and nobody cared about them either. Well, the C11 IS a classic by now
but the Captain is going the way of the C80... :D
ah, numbers.

What? Don't you know about the base we have on the back side of the moon? We've been visiting other planets for years. George Noory said so! But seriously, I'm a HUGE Coast to Coast AM fan... and that's another (off topic) thread.
Anyway, Spyderco IS a multinational company, headquartered in the USA. No need to brag, no need to gloat, they are what they are. Anyone with any care can look up where the shots are called.

(Besides, whenever we get those colonies set up and they open up branch offices, we will be able to tell which ones are made on which planet, right?) :D

Ya, President Ford told me about it a few years ago. Look close at my avatar, and read my Bio.hickster wrote:What? Don't you know about the base we have on the back side of the moon? When C99 came out I was expecting C100 to be held for the (then) proposed first automatic knife from Spyderco. I had assumed that Spyderco were going to mark their first auto with the C100. But obviously it has been left standing as a vacant spot..... :) It has been left for Persian 2 obviously :p

C100 could still happen. Would not be the first time a number was assigned, but the model's release got delayed. Remember the C74 Ocelot? It was on the back burner so long that, IIRC, there were knives with model numbers higher than C100 on the shelves by the time it was released. Heck, for all we know, the C06 Yachtsman and the C31 Europa might show up in the 2010 catalog. :D
