So in light of the recent discontinued list, I grabbed a couple of Khukuri's. I have looked at the knife for awhile with curious interest but didn't really know how functional the knife would be in the world of EDC. Along with many others, I am sad to see such an interesting knife leave but wondered, for those who own the knife, what are your thoughts?

I handled one about a year ago and I just now have one on its way to me. But I can say that it fits in my hand perfect, better than any other knife I own. I think functionality of the knife would be the same as any other, due to the angle I think you could make fine cuts with the tip easily and than use the belly/recurve section to make long pull cuts.

Delica and Endura are great knives! They're the low priced crack samples that'll get you hooked on spyderco! Feed the need!

G-10 handles, FFG VG-10 blade, open back design, thick, sturdy liner lock, typically awesome Schempp ergos...what more could you need for a very pocketable and useful EDC? It's a fantastic knife for EDC. Period. Carry it for awhile when you get it and you will see. :D

It has a sturdy lock, & fantastic ergos. I love the negative blade angle. It is a fantastic slicer and excels at pull cuts. Its very slim in the pocket, but feels big in the hand. I only have one complaint, the pocket clip hits me weird when I am not using the choil- I may tweak it a bit. I seriously think it could be the next Dodo. People are gonna miss it when its gone.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Hey thanks for the quick replies. I think I am getting the same feeling about the knife as some of the responces. That's why I got 2 of them. I figure there is no way I can leave it in the box. It really looks like it will have a great feel in the hand from the shape of the handle. Unlike some who have posted in the past I really like the color of the G10 so I'm really ecited all the way around to try this one out.

Tony,

Do you mean it is too 'hidden' ? I am curious now. A mate of mine has bought me one and I am dying to handle it and try it out on some unsuspecting garden growth :D

I love everything about this knife except how "hidden" the lock release is.

I think he means there's very little or actually no (IIRC) recess on the opposite liner/scale to access the locking liner leaf. I didn't find it a big problem but I can see that some people would, especially if they have generous-size thumbs.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. I really just don't like liner locks as all but I feel like I have limited myself so much to other knives that I am trying to give it a chance. Being a lefty there are enough knives that I can't or won't get. Hopefully it won't drive me nuts too. :)

This morning was an "out of the box" for me purchase. I also did something I never do. I actually bought 2 knives that  weren't Spyderco's. I can't remember the last time that happened.

I picked up a Rat 1 folder with satin PE and a CRKT Drifter in black G10 PE. Hope I don't end up kicking myself for these two. It's really hard to not buy Spyderco only. :D

I agree. The one I handled felt very good in the hand but I could not get over how difficult it was to access and release the lock. It is also pointy where I like to release them at and makes it weird to close. Just my .02

It's an extremely sweet knife. The size of a Delica close, the length of a Manix2 open. It slices extremely well thanks to FFG and the negative blade angle is very cool.

The handle is extremely ergonomic and the liners are smooth and comfortable (I for one don't think jimping should be on anything and everything). Either forward grip is very comfortable (normal or choke-up). I personally think the liner lock isn't very hard to disengage but takes a bit of thought. The higher up you go (near the choil) the easier it is to unlock. My Captain is far tougher in my humble opinion and it even has jimping.

At least when unlocking the Khukuri and Barong you don't shed skin cells =). I'll take a slightly slower unlock because everything else is amazing. I like its ergos even more than the Caly3.

Love mine!
Trust me guys..once you use it and get used to it its as easy to close as any other knife. I didnt like how the lock was at first but now its perfect. Just try it, you wont regret it. Its the perfect "small" size in the pocket, but once you need it its plenty big to perform any task! its a Great knife.

By the way SpyderHS08, your STR jimping job is awesome! It adds a cool flair to the aesthetics and probably a ton of functionality.

My "jimping" comments about the Khukuri have always been from a "not needed from the factory" role. Quite similar, Mustang's don't "need" 400 horsepower but who doesn't like a little aftermarket work? ;)

So after waiting for a ****** knife at knife center that was out of stock, that held the entire order up, I got the Khukuri. I do get what Tony is saying about the hard to get to release, but beyond that all I can say is wow.

Anyone who is thinking of pulling the trigger on this one should grab it while the prices are good and it's still available. This knife is truly awesome. Fit and finish perfect. Thick liners that have a high polish on them. Fits in my hand like a glove. Love the blade angle. This knife will really cut. Looks a little funny at first but when you start using it, you understand the genius behind the design.

I would have liked to see some jimping but other than that it's just great. The handle is very narrow and at first glance you think it will be too small in the hand but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I gotta say Ed Schempp designs are just like the lines on a curvy woman. Better stop now, this could get "R" rated quick. Thanks again Spyderco for knocking one out of the park with this one.

I got one of my two the other day and it'll be heading back to Spyderco as of monday. Great knife, but the blade comes within a gnats a$$ of touching the non liner lock side. My first knife I bought that does this. Like I said, it seems like a great knife, I'm just a little disappointed in the QC. I just bought another one from Poor_Fish over on the 'bay. His price is hard to beat.
