Chewbacca vs Gandalf The Grey
Chewbacca vs Gandalf The Grey
Figured I'd start a heated serious debate in the off-topic forum.
Setting: Some bar between Tatooine and the Shire. Somewhat crowded.
Reason: Obviously arguing over the best Trilogy ever.
Weapons: Bowcaster vs gnarled staff
Tag-Team Partners: Han Solo & Frodo w/Ring (what the heck).
Fight!

Must ....resist....brain.....[and my head explodes].
There are just too many things to contemplate here. While Gandalf would be able to defend against Chewys crossbow, how do you counter Hans pistol, and while Frodo could be invisible with the ring, if he tried to stab and didn't kill him in one hit Chewy would just rip his arms off. But Gandalf would be able to kill them both easily, but would he kill 2 guys in a bar fight without a good reason.

Which Gandalf? The Gray, or the improved, turbocharged "White" version? I mean, It really does matter.
Oh yeah, was this before or after his ring of power was um,,,,de-powered when.....never mind.

Gandalfs powers are usually limited to the "realm" hes currently situated in at the time (and those realms only happen in middle earth where he draws his authority from, tattoine and the shire are so far apart, that if we are to say " in a bar somewhere in the middle", we would now be encroaching into star terk territory and YOU DONT wanna open that can of worms now do you, so, Long Story Short, Gandalf is Far away from home no matter how you look at it). Where as Chewies crossbow just adheres to normal laws of physics. Dont get me wrong, I wanna call a tie, because hey, those are my two favorite movie trilogies, but, all things considered, Vader would have "felt" Gandalfs tiny but altogether "measurable" presence in the force and would have had him confiscated early on to recruit him to the dark side. That said, Gandalf would never have been found in that bar to begin with making this whole idea a total mind bending connundrum.
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of meeting deadlines is forgotten.

Well.... Gandalf is no weak minded fool
and so the Force would be strong in him as well as his ability to summon up his 'magic' powers against the overgrown fleabag.
I'd say Gandalf would/should win over this encounter.
HOWEVER, if as pointed out that his magic/ force only works in his realm of Middle Earth where the physics might be different to the one which is in a galaxy far far away then Gandalf might just be a geriatric with a massive walking stick. In that case Chewy would rip his limbs apart and have himself a midday snack :p

I really like Star Wars, but I'm casting my vote for Gandalf.
A wizard wielding magic and spells versus Chewy wielding a crossbow... Gandalf takes the match due to the diversity of what he could do to Chewy.
Even if Gandalf isn't packing his own powers as he travels, seems that as a wizard he can tap into the Force and put it to use.

Of course Gandalf has powers outside of middle earth. He was of the Ainur class, who existed before the first stars came into existance. In middle earth his powers were deliberately limited so he wouldn't be tempted to use force to win, a practice which had proven risky and caused massive destruction to the earth in the past. His Elven ring, which he kept hidden would have lost power away from earth I believe.
There, is that nerdy enough for an old retired Correctional officer?
Chewy, Han, Vadar, even the Emperor were mere mortals.

OK let's consider this from the modern, more revisionist perspective.
Chewy/Solo = Self defense. (Which of course is total crap.)
VS
Arwen = Somehow at the Fjord. (Which of course is total crap.)
But, considering the overall egregiousness of the two scenarios, I have to give the nod to the lesser of the two evils:
Star Wars.
