Who EDC's the Civilian?

Post by Spyderknife »

Wondering who EDC's the Civilian or Matriarch for SD purposes. If not one of these, what do you EDC for SD purposes and why?

the civilian is a little too scary for edc use as far as i am concerned. i bought this knife even know i knew i would never use it. it was just to bad *** to pass up. so i went for it and now it is a collector piece for me. i love it. my edc for SPY is black native with black frn handle. it is menacing. also i carry my cricket in my wallet folder thing 3 way wallet thing that opens up and fits perfectly like my wallet and the cricket were made for each other.

I agree that the civilian is a little too crazy to actually carry. When I carry a Spydie for SD it's either a spyderedge Native or the Spyderco Shivworks P'kal which if you're trained with edge weapons techniques is more than formidable. But what I'd really suggest is a good tactical light to blind an assailant then haul ***, this way you keep yourself out of court tough guy.

I carry an Endura, stretch, Police 3 typically with a very small & light Titanium 38sp for defense.

In colder weather I carry a Glock .40

While I was an EMT I carried a matriarch, just in case I needed it for a seatbelt.

I carry a military. Never admit that any of your knives are carried for self defence it's a trick question it proves intent and that's where you get in big trouble. That info was given to me by a good friend 25 year veteran LAPD sgt. The knif you carry is a tool and say nothing else in the event you do have to use it someday.

The Civilian would probably be the wrong knife to carry in most states, given Spyderco's explicit description of its purpose(s).

I keep mine as a toy at home.

Since it was designed for LEO and undercovers, I don't think that would be the best knife for defending yourself.....in a court of law that is! I have a Civilian collection and they all stay in the case.
...oh you know why!

Manix 2 CF Stretch and H-1 Spyderhawk PE and SE any and every knife i've ever owned can and if ever needed will be used for SD. Remember a razor is still a razor no matter what size it is and it still performs the same function but of course a knife is always a tool first. I'd use a key an inkpen a rock anything when my life is on the line. You never have control of the situation if you're the victim you have to go on the fly. You can be in control be at the start you are caught off gaurd. The best knife for SD is the one in my pocket sharp and always ready

Thanks for the feedback all. The Civilian is just such a beauty and wish it could get more pocket time. Well, guess I'm sticking to the P'kal in RF pocket then, with Surefire L1 in holster.

Somewhat off - topic, depending on the way you read it...

It's difficult to win when fighting Rambo, but that doesn't mean you can't run away from him.

Entirely different story with Chuck Norris, though :D

When Chuck Norris wants your wallet, you'll WANT to give him your wallet. No FMA or MMA uber - tactical commando maneuver will ever save you.

I have a Civilian, and it is a beautiful knife, but don't carry it for S/D.
