Leaf storm in Carbon Fiber?

#1

Post by RSV2400 »

How come I get to see what appears to be a new leaf storm model on EBay first (Leaf Storm CF)? No news here, nor in Facebook

It's not a new model, but an aftermarket modified Leafstorm that "...features custom, aerospace quality carbon fiber (front)..." bolted on. The carbon fiber blanks with that particular pattern are cheaply available on eBay and if you look at the edges of the CF front on the knife, you'll notice that they're a bit rough. It's just a DIY mod that doesn't stand up to the quality that Spyderco would be producing were it an actual new model.

They also feature an orange G-10 Leafstorm in a couple of the picture. That is also an aftermarket mod and not a production piece as well. That's why Spyderco didn't announce it, cause they aren't making it.

I just went to the Wilkins website yesterday and saw MANY MANY spyderholes. I had no idea.
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of meeting deadlines is forgotten.

CF S90V Leafstorm (drool...) I'd go for that! I think it would complement the ZDP Caly 3 quite nicely.

That CF looks pretty good, but I like the coolness of the translucent green. Leafstorn is #1 on my list just for the cool/unique factor and the size.

After carrying my Leafstorm for a bit, it is back in the (Spyderco) knife cabinet. Probably not permanently. It is a 3-finger design that has to be used carefully in order not to let your finger(s) slide forward onto the blade if you have large hands. That said, it is a very cool design. Wilkins offers at least four after-market scales right now with, I assume, more to come, that increase the cool factor quite a bit. Black and White Micarta for example.

Oops! Above post mentioned Micarta scales. Not correct. They are Melamine.

Not wanting to sound harsh, but I just don't like the scale, or the ergonomics of the design. To each his own.
