Resurrect the Lum Tanto!

#1

Post by Scottie3000 »

Ive been chasing a Lum tanto for months and every time I think I might get a good deal (<$250) I am disappointed. It seems Spyderco made relatively very few of what many consider to be a really great knife. I would love to see a re-release or sprint run of these. Based on the price (A used example just went for $294 on EBay) people are willing to pay, I don't think I'm alone.

I would buy one for sure. And I have been on the hunt for one at a decent price also.

There is another company making a Lum Tanto at this time. We're working on a larger version and a smaller version of the Lum Chinese folder.

Perhaps when the other company stops making their veresion of the Lum Tanto, we bring out a run of the earlier Spyderco version?

Are we talking about the fixed blade?

One I regret passing on there.

Sal, what about one of these in an up-to-date steel like ZDP, and maybe a slightly longer blade?

I believe he was making reference to the Titanium Lum folder that just went on ebay for just a shade under 300. I would buy several of the Lum tanto folder if another run was made, not to keen on the fixed blade version. The "other" Lum tanto Sal is talkin about is a very very nice knife with a supersteel and framelock, I think he is wise in his thinking about waiting. They are differant knives from differant companies and both are very nice.

I was talking about the folder. I don't have a whole lot of use for a fixed blade in my day to day routine. I would love to see the original Titanium handle version in maybe VG-10. If Sal is talking about the same Lum tanto I'm thinking of, I don't know how many people are really wild about a folder in M4 as opposed to SS. IDK if it will be a long running model.

I have the Ti original, but if it came out in 420/ZDP-189 then it would give the tanto blade an awesome look and I'd buy one!!!

yeah sal i know what you're talking about and i was about to say something rather mean but i won't I did have a look at said knife but i refuse to purchase it but if it's not too much to ask maybe a sprint run in the works too preferably something carbon fiber either ZDP 189 or S90V? think about it let it sink in i think ppl would appreciate it. then again titanium is pretty but how about a CF scale on one side g-10 is all used up lol. sorry i'm having carbon fiber issues right now. And i just got my CF stretch in

The Lum Folding Tanto is my Holy Grail knife. A sprint run in S90V and Carbon Fiber would make year.

I LOVE S90V too...but this model crys out for a laminated steel like 420J2/ZDP-189. Plus its made in Seki, so thats the logical super steel.

I hope I am not hijacking...

But, I would love to see the fixed blade again, but with a 'hira' or 'shobu' style blade.

Cool, I like the Hira grind, kind of Japanese for FFG. :)

I agree ZDP-189 would be the logical super steel for a sprint run. I have hope that one day this model might make a return. I guess we just need support from people like the ones on this forum to show Spyderco it would be worth making the Lum tanto folder again.

I can't say yes enough to a run of the ti Lum tanto just like the first one.
That knife was as close to Sebenza quality as any production knife I have ever seen.

I will also say that the one the other company is making is nothing like the Ti Lum Spyderco made.

I will be in for a few, its everything i ever wanted in a knife, with the black blade of course. As far as the "other" No round hole kills it for me :( ohh well

A larger LUM Chinese would run a very close second!
