The standard M2 is an amazing knife and a real bargain.

It makes you want to walk into a knife store and hold other $60ish knives just so you can snicker under your breath.

Wait till you've used it a while. When I was test driving the pilot model I was extremely impressed by how the 154CM held an edge. Either that stuff is vastly under-rated, or some of the higher priced steels are terribly over-hyped.

I guess I must be in the minority as I don't care for the design at all. I was all excited when I heard they were going to redesign the Manix, but was dissappointed when I seen the finished product. I'm not really sure why, but it just looks wrong to me, even the FFG version doesn't do a thing for me. Not really a big deal as most others seem to really enjoy the new design, just not my cup of tea, I bought a Para for my big badass knife instead :)

I had a SE Manix 2 for about 6 hours before I sold it to finance a S90V Manix 2. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the knife and loved the SE. I'm definitely going to replace it when I have some extra cash again (some day...  :p ). Can't believe that it's a $70-80 dollar knife!

I really don't understand why there is a vocal minority who dislike the new design. I think it's very true to the original Manix design and incorporates some cool new technology, while probably being THE best deal around for a Golden produced knife.

"I was extremely impressed by how the 154CM held an edge"

Properly heat treated 154CM is way under-rated.
Have a few 1996 - 97 Socom's that I have used for over 10 years.

Its my favorite all around blade steel. I do think there is a lot of it on the market with a poor heat treat though. Thus giving it a less than average rating. Done right, its great stuff. Easy to sharpen to a razor edge & holds it a long time.

I am becoming a steel snob..S90v M2, M4 ZDP 189 etc... But much prefer 154cm above most other mortal metals. Including S30v and D2

Also agree the Manix 2 is my new favorite Spyderco. Well, top 5 anyway.....

More S90v & CF please.......

I don't deny that it's a good value at all, in fact I would probably recommend it to someone looking for a good hard use folder. But I don't care for it myself, just like there are many other Spyderco models I would never buy as well.

The Manix 2 and the Tenacious are Spydercos best bargains. I have them both.

Think of movie remakes. No matter how good one is, die hard fans of the original will display displeasure that their icon has been tampered with. Sometimes, the complaints are justified, sometimes totally specious, often just matters of taste. Then of course, there were those of us who were never thrilled with the original and don't find the remake a whole lot more thrilling. That does not mean it's not well made, or an excellent value, just not one's cup of tea.

Good points, I'm certainly not going to disagree with you. I definitely wouldn't call the Manix or Manix 2 thrilling, perhaps greater than the sum of their parts. I guess I feel the same way about the CF Caly 3, for example. Good design, good materials, and excellent execution.

It's more difficult to get excited over black G10 than animal bone or treated exotic woods.

That said, it's an amazing value and it's components (as mentioned) combine to do things an "exotic" knife can't dream of and it costs $60.

There was a poster a couple weeks ago who put a M2 through a user test cutting for hours and the knife was still shaving sharp. It wasn't an abusive test but equated to about a year of cutting for me :) . I'd track down the link if it wasn't Friday, lol.

I agree with all the positive sentiments posted. The Manix 2 is my favorite knife and I don't see that changing anytime soon. 154cm is great steel.
