The Lum Chinese Folder is my favorite knife and I feel it is one of the best knives the Spyderco makes. I can deploy the blade very fast and it feels good in my hand.

sc_rebel1957,

The Lum Chinese is a model I've been wanting to acquire for a long time. I think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of yours as many find them perfect for EDC or "every day carry".

Folks,

What's the current situation for availability of the blue Lum Chinese? Does anybody know? I realize that they are currently available from the Spyderco factory outlet for top dollar, but are they commonly found at any of the main online dealers? The couple I've looked at so far don't seem to list them.

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

The www.knifecentre.com have them listed as being in stock, and they are generally very good about keeping their stock list current.

They are actually selling them for $119, $5 less than the standard green version.

Is that a <img src="http://spyderco.com/forum/spyder.gif"border=0> in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me ?

Dude,

I got my Blue Lum from NewGraham.com for $109 something. (I added overnight shipping and the grand total was something like $124.) I think they still might have some available, as well as some Imperial Jade Green models in serrated style. I believe they are the same price.

Good Luck!

Fellow Spydies,

Thanks for the leads on the blue Lum. I will see first if my local dealer can get one in for me as that way I get to handle the knife first, but if neccesary I'll order online. I appreciate your help.

Kahz,

Do you find the clip placement to be comfortable under your hand when gripping this knife? The one I handled awhile back seemed a bit awkward to me. I notice though, that it can be switched to either tip-up or tip-down orientation, so perhaps the one I saw was setup in a "funny" way.

Jeff,

I carried my Chinese Folder tip-down for quite a while because most of my other knives are set up that way. However I prefer tip-up and both my Chinese Folders are now tip-up (the blue one came like that) and I reckon that's definately the way to go with this knife.

Clay,

That is what I would think too, following my introduction to the large Wegner. Until I got my tip-up Wegner, I thought that tip down was the only way to go. Now I realize just how very easily and quickly I can deploy a knife that is tip-up and has a fairly heavy blade. The Lum Chinese can be "thumb flicked" open quite easily, can it not?

So, How are the coating's on the Almite handles of your Lum's holding up with use? I get the impression that yours see a fair bit of pocket carry. Does it seem durable or not so much?

Jeff.

Jeff,

My Lum's are showing no sign of wear although they are usualy only carried at the weekend, the Centofantes see most of the action during the week. Howener my blue one does have a couple of chips in the almite where I dropped it . Yes the blade opens very quickly with a thumb flick and can be easily opened with a flick of the wrist if you're in a real hurry .

Clay,

Just a wrist flick, without a "nudge" from the "Spyderthumb" at all?

The Chinese Lum fever had got me bad! I haven't even received my Wegner mouse yet, and already I'm spending much time each day gazing at images of these knives. Please, if anyone has any "Lum Chinese stories" or the like...could you relay them? I'd like to hear something Lum-related. Well, don't I sound needy?
