Full sized 4" Caly 3 Carbon Fiber ZDP-189

#1

Post by MCM »

I really like my CF ZDP Caly 3.

Would anyone else buy one with a 4" blade?

Same clip, same width, same blade shape/design, same manufacturer, just larger overall.

Sal, Any interest? :)

Sprint of C54 Calypso would be nice. Change micarta color, (may be) add liners.
Beauty and cuts like laser. Make a blade a hair short of 4" (for legal purposes)

No interest here. Full size Calypso is too big to carry the way I carry my knives. I'd think a CF/ZDP version of the Police III would satisfy most of those who'd be interested in something like that, and be a more realistic possibility, since the tooling already exists.

No interest. The original Calypso was toooooooooo big.

The Military is big and I rarely carry it anymore.

The Police is too big. The Barong is on the verge of too big.

I think 3.5" blades are the magic size. Even 3.7" is good. Anything 4" or over is too big. Most of the time even people who usually give you the benefit of the doubt for carrying a knife are going to be like "why the heck do you need one THAT big?" with anything 4" or over.

No real interest. Caly 3 is a perfect size as is and Spyderco has plenty of choices with a 4" blade.

I'd go smaller. Definately not larger.

I don't really think the design would benefit from a larger blade. Maybe it's just me. I wouldn't mind a smaller one either though, I'm interested in that

I love my original C54 Calypso knives! An updated sprint run would definitely be appreciated by me.

My Kreined Barong with thumb ramp is probably as close as I will ever get to having a Calypso (the blade is very similar after Krein grinds it). I would love a ZDP C54 sprint run for sure, I'm just not thinking it is likely.

I'd bet a Sprint Run of the original C54P, either in ZDP-189 with the original black micarta, or in VG-10 with a different color micarta, would be an instant collectible and sell like hotcakes.

Actually I like this idea as well. It looks like my dream about clipless Kopa will not be true, so I would get CF 2.5" Caly (VG10, please), easy remove clip and almost get what I wished for.
