Witch new military?

#1

Post by vito72 »

I own a NIB never carried paramilitary D2 its so beauty, i dont want use him....So im going to chose a new military series piece.
Para i think its exactly what i need about lock, size weight performances etc..
But still i dont have a military in my small collection so i want ask to forum friends here some tips, what i should choose military? Another paramilitary?
And witch one? Except The Bg 42 because actually find a decent price for one of them its much more difficoult to find a white fly, and no black coated blades, what to choose? Camo, orange, black??
Try to help or convince myself..
Thanks.

I suggested a black G-10 scaled Military if you want to try a Military model. You can probably find it for the least amount of money. I understand that the import tax is high if you can not find one locally near Potenza, Italy. If you get the chance to try a Military with CPM S90V and Carbon Fiber scales, I would suggest trying it! :) It is my current favorite that I carry everyday.

I suggested an orange model, simply because that is what I would get as I really like the orange scales, especially on the military.

All depend on you use/needs. For somebody who would use the knife heavy on daily basis CF/S90V Military would be better choice, for most others black G10/S30V Military will give the best cost/performance ratio. Orange G10, if you love this color and have some concerns about knife-scary people (my sis is one of them, still working on it).
Good luck in your search.

Just waiting on the Ti myself here.

Thanks to all...

About Ti i think will be expansive enough much more than the current version...But i dont have idea about...

Orange: Im not a big fan of orange knives ,yes they are very nice but in one side they are safety and maybe are better for peoples who are scary of knives, but in other side they are little bit much more visible of the black one and camo, expecially in military model where the back handle usually its outside pocket for his shape..

I think the black handle want be the most perfect for my scopes, but honestly still i have not decided.

Just yesterday i used my current EDC native for eat i was outside city, and in evening i had to slice a pizza in one restaurant because the table knife was dull and to be honestly i confirmed my opinion, for eat i dont like medium blades as a native i dont feel confortable, i prefer longer blades, i think military want be good size, exactly same size of my usually table knives size for daily use.
And in september i will be outside city for 3 months because i have to go to a specialized photography school and probably i will use a lunch box every days so i will use a knife for dinner every day so i choose to buy a military.

Thanks for help i will apreciate other opinions and feedback and i will inform all of you about my choose.

My favorite in either the Mili or Para for EDC is the FG CPM-D2 but I don't know if I'd choose it knowing it had to do food preparation every day. Occasionally? Sure. But if I knew it was daily I would more likely choose an S30V model... Maybe Camo...

I wish for the ultimate Titanium Military! I heard/see pics it would look like the marriage of the Military and the CR Sebenza. I think it would be my 3rd ever lusting love among the :spyder: s, together with Police SS and Poliwog SS.

Unfortunatelly I've read that sorry thing at a Hungarian knife portal that it maybe never would become reality. I think Hegyespenge (Hegyes Sándor, or Sandor Hegyes) mentioned it, they were talking with Eric and Sal at the IWA in Germany this year. (Sándor is one of Hungary's very best knifemaker, and he is the husband of my former biology teacher who teached me at secondary school, at town Barcs)

I hope Ti-Millie would not follow those "never-entered-production" or "what-if" knives. It worth at least a sprint run. I think they would sit too long on the selves of the sellers.

Ps.: Ups! I mean ever lasting, but it's true maybe that way, too... :D

My D2 and S30V works well for me :D I think the S30V being the most commonly available and cheaply available should suffice for most applications. Mine gets abused all the time and it always comes out trumps :p

How does the Orange Military hold up in terms of bling?

It's not the blinding orange it used to be after a couple of weeks, and detergent can't seem to get rid of the dirt on the handles.

I say get the digi-para s30v. I have both the BG-42 Millie and the D2 para and my para is my EDC without question. My millie is still the best blade i have, but in terms of use, my para's dimensions coupled with the awesome D2 blade is a perfect combo for me. Easy to touch up back to razor sharp when I have to hone her, and the weight and solid lock up is SUPERB. Feels like nothings there in my pocket, then when I whip her out, It goes from nothing to EVERYTHING. For the Money, I would wait till the para2 comes out so the s30v paras right now prices drop.
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of meeting deadlines is forgotten.

I own the D2 sprint run Paramilitary as well and it is a great knife--I use it all the time. I'd recommend going ahead and using it, you never know you could get hit by a bus tomorrow. Or if you don't want to use it, get a black handled para--this because if you drop the digi-camo on the ground in the woods it will be hella hard to find it. I owned a Military for a few weeks and carried it while camping and while it is a really cool knife it was too long for me. I didn't find it a comfortable pocket carry. But the Para is very good. Go with it. BTW I like the concept of orange handles for heavier field use knives as you could find them easily if dropped.
