Liner lock question (Khukuri)

#1

Post by shiftdelete »

Just got my first :spyder: Spyderco in my hands- The Khukuri. The knife is wonderful, and the blade is very sharp. It was laughing at the paper I had in front of it.

I adjusted the action on the knife so I can give it a nice easy flick to open.

However, i find the Liner Lock very very firm. It takes a really hard thumb press to release. I'm ambidextrous, and have tried using it in both hands, and I am starting to get some nice calluses on both thumbs. I'm a fairly strong guy, but I was just wondering if this is normal, or if it just needs to be broken in, etc. Any comments?

I'll be posting pics soon, and had another question on the blade, but it needs a photo to explain.

Thanks,

A couple of my militaries have been like that when they were new, they loosened up with use. Some were so tight that i had to pull back on the blade a little to get the liner to release. I would way rather have them to tight than loose.

My Khukuri was also a bit stiff to begin with. You can give the lock contacts a rub with a pencil, this smoothes it somewhat.

The lock on mine has gotten a lot easier to use with time but has remained rock solid, it's a nice knife, enjoy!
