Red handled Spyderco's are not safe

#1

Post by Mickey »

Let me explain.I was just on "E-bay" under the Spyderco section. There is a red handled Dragonfly listed with a live Blade. There is also an older Endura with Red enamuled handles.

I like the concept of the Red FRN handles on the trainer Delica and Endura models. The models listed on E-bay were older models. They were undoubtedly manufactured before the concept of a "Safe" red handled trainer.

Just a word of caution.Make sure the red handled Spyderco you pick up to train with is actually a dedicated Training Knife.

Dear Mickey:

Good point! Ultimately, safety comes down to proper tools AND proper attitude. Just as you press-check a pistol every time you handle it to make sure it is safe, you should always check your training knife to ensure it is what you think it is before you draw and use it with a partner. There's no such thing as being too careful.

Stay safe,
