Travelling to Arkansas for a competition next week. Anything I should know about the knife carry laws? I come from CA, which I assume is more restrictive. EDC is usally a Captain or Benchmade Griptillian (replaced lost D4 CE).

Thanks

09-FEB-2007 -- The Arkansas legislature has repealed Sec. 5-73-121 of the Arkansas Code pertaining to the offense of carrying a knife as a weapon. Prior to its repeal, Sec. 5-73-121 had imposed a three and a half inch blade length limit on knife carry, and knives carried with blades over the specified length were presumed to be weapons under the statute.

With the repeal of Sec. 5-71-121, implemented as Act 83 of 2007, Arkansas no longer has a statutory blade length limit for knife carry.

Besides, most of us just carry what we are comfortable with.

Of course, I am in a fairly rural area and even a cop is probably carrying some sort of knife.

I am so glad you posted this question. I moved to AR in Jul 06 from TX and I have not carried my larger folders because I thought th 3.5 in rule was still in effect. This is great news.

I've lived in AR all my life and most of the officers that I've met are really cool people. As long as you aren't committing some other crime, getting busted for carrying a knife should be the least of your worries in our beautiful state. :)

I agree with CombatGrappler for the most part, but I did get my knife measured when I went into the Clinton Memorial in LR. It was pretty cool. About 3 police offices came running with there measuring tapes. After seeing that, I was a bit more cautious. Enjoy your visit, it is a wonderful state. If you get up to Rogers go visit AG Russel.

Me too - I just bought a Para instead of waiting for the Chokwe because I thought that rule was still in effect. Love the Para though!

Which brings up an excellent point. Regardless of state law, buildings and other "gathering places", both public and private, sometimes have rules of their own and in some cases are governed by different laws.

Arkansas: knife friendly from what I can tell

Post by JD Spydo »

Arkansas is just about 190 miles south of where I live. I go there periodically and personally I've never had any problem down there. The 3 to 4 times I have had occassion to encounter either Police, Game Wardens or park rangers I've always been treated with respect>> I wish I could say the same for some of the LEOs in my home state :(

But it's as they say>> "The Further South You Go, The Friendlier The People Are". I've gone hunting, fishing and hiking in the state and I've never had any probems at all in either Arkansas or Mississippi. I've even had an Arkansas Sherriff's deputy had me follow him so I could find my way to Greer's Ferry Lake. The guy truly went out of his way to help us. And we've had .22 rifles, machetes and many other outdoor items with us. I've never even had an Arkansas Game Warden even ask me to show him my out of state fishing license before even when I was getting information from one of them.

If I could find a decent paying job down there I would truly be tempted to live there. As long as you don't look like a radical with 300 tattoos on you I seriously doubt if you have much trouble at all carrying any kind of a folder in Arkansas.
