Custom Scales for Spydercos

#1

Post by skatenut »

Custom scales, anyone?
have a look at

http://cuscadi.de/

dont' worry, the website is in German and English. They do custom scales for various folders, such as Spydercos, Striders, Vics, Bokers and Benchmades.

have a look at the the gallery and enjoy the spydies.

so far, I bought three spydies :spyder: and a Boker Subcom from them: a Tenacious with beautiful ebony scales and two Delicas with ziricote scales. I was pleasantly surprised by my first Tenacious, a lot of knife for the money and it fits my hand as if made to measure. made a stupid mistake with the Delicas, intending them to be gifts for my cousins, should have bought three outright and kept one for myself. :D I intend to correct that mistake soon, however. I'm not sure what I like better, the quiet elegance of the ebony, which almost gives the Tenacious the appearance of a gentleman's knife, although it's a little too big for a gentlemen's knife, or the lively patterns of the ziricote on the Delicas. My cousins are NKP, so I thought the smaller Delicas would be more appropriate for them and I sincerely hope they will like them. Maybe I'll start them on the road to being spydie-fans.

Here is a picture off their website, with their permission.

Not all of us can live near Golden, but I'm glad to live near this company, it saves customs duties, import tax etc.. :)

Pookiechad,

suggest you contact them via e-mail, see their homepage, the Bokers in the shop seem to be all in German.

Don't know. Don't really think the "why" behind that, or any other business decision they make is any of my business. If I had to guess though, I'd say one or more of the following might be factors.

The number of different models, even just counting those with removeable scales

The number of changes in some of those models which might affect interchangeability

The fact that Spyderco discourages end user disassembly and warns us it voids the warranty

My gut feeling that, no matter what they offered in the way of replacement scales, it would never be exactly what the instant customer wanted,

Hmmm... if I get lazy and dont want to do it myself, these guys might be an option. One question: Would I potentially have problems getting a knife through customs if it was against german law to carry it there? If so, what are the limitations?
