Blade centering on new orange Military
Grrr. I wait all this time for the orange Military, order it the second it's available, and it arrives with a jilted blade!
It's slanted toward the lock side. Loosening the blade seems to be the only quick fix but then there's blade play. Help

is it actually contacting any part of the handle when closed? if not it should be fine.JediKnight86 wrote:Grrr. I wait all this time for the orange Military, order it the second it's available, and it arrives with a jilted blade!

War is mostly waiting.
you shouldn't loosen the blade.
instead, tighten the pivot to very tight, then loosen the back spacer screws, press the blade to the opposite side and wedge the blade with paper and let it stay like that when closed. then tighten up the rest of the screws, take the paper out and see the centering again, when desired result is reach, adjust the pivot back to normal tightness, problem fixed. I have 9/10 of all my :spyder: NOT center when close and I use a few different methods to fix all of them, and this is the one for millie and para :D Good luck

Oh wow. I would just cancel and find one on eBay. I didn't pre-order mine, just happened to be on knifeworks.com just after it was posted. I don't think you're the only one waiting on an order.Eazy_tom wrote:At least you got yours.
I ordered one from your corner store and they say:

you can just forget about it completely and then in a couple of months be very surprised when a package mysteriously shows up on your doorstep hah..Eazy_tom wrote:At least you got yours.

OMG, My 1st and only Military arrived the same exact way that JK`s did, blade slanted towards the lock side. I was bummed since I recall reading that it may not be fixed for this reason if I sent it in.
I googled Military blade centering and this thread came up! Tried it, worked PERFECT! Many thanks Low-Tec!
Question is, does everyone have to do this centering trick?
I am one excited and happy camper right now!!! My Millie is all better!!!

Nope. Got my orange millie in person from the SFO and its perfect although somehow I managed to get black gunk on the top of the handle that won't come off.uncle edge wrote:Question is, does everyone have to do this centering trick?

Funny thing is I do something a little different but it works. I read it on this forum or Bladeforums at some point in the last 4 years.
I back the pivot off about 3 turns until the blade has a bit of play. Then I open knife and let it lock. Then I lay the blade flat on a table with the handle sticking off of the table. I then hold the blade down with my hand so it cannot come off the table or move, and then I push the handle towards the lock. After that I tighten the pivot all the way down until the blade will not move. Then I back the screw off until it's where I like it. I then close the knife to find the blade centered. Weird. I have no idea how/why it works.

I feel safe that I'm not the only anal in the world that get annoyed by the blade centering. :p
imatyssik: I feel too busy/lazy to do some write ups but I'm willing to share my experience if anyone else really want to fix theirs. I will check back on this thread every once awhile.
David Lowry: glad your method works for you. No offense but I find pressing on an open blade with my hand and pushing the handle with my other hand is kinda......
Plus, you might need to loosen, tighten, open and close the screws/the blade a few times or start all over before you get the desired position. I have tried similar method but with the blade closed, it didn't work for me :o But it's fun to play with it nonetheless

I have full size MANIX that had a misaligned blade which had maligned the harmonic balance of my Spyderco obsession. The weight of that imperfection on something so nearly perfect, weighed on me greatly. So, I could not help but to attempt your blade alignment procedure.
It worked...beautifully. My Manix blade is now aligned!!! And my harmonic balance for all things Spyderco has been restored.
If there were an award for Tip of the Year, I think you deserve it.
Thank you for straightening us out... :)
