What are your other favourite equipment designers?

#1

Post by tea »

I am curious what other equipment designers / manufacturers people have found to offer similar traits as Spyderco. Traits such as quality, durability, and functionality. Incredible value. Interest in their customers feedback. Etc.

Personally, I recommend Black Diamond. I have a few of their back packs, head lamps and some miscellaneous climbing gear. It's all amazingly light, tough and very well thought out. Also, priced competitively. Often when I need ('want' being the correct word) new gear, I look to see if Black Diamond makes it first.

I would also highly recommend Arc'Teryx. I have their Beta AR Jacket and it is amazing. Very high end materials, tough, comfortable and functional. A few people have commented on the price, but like a Caly3, it is worth every penny- Or as I tell them- “You wouldn't understand.”

What have other gear companies have people found to be impressive and would recommend?

Good thread tea!

I like Danner boots. I have three pair and they are very comfortable from day one.

I like Eagle Industries' nylon gear because it's rugged and made in the USA.

Marathon watches are also great. Rugged and well made. I have only one though, the TSAR.

I'm really too old to say that something "rocks," but Glocks do.

Assuring to see you guys have good taste in autos.

I'm partial to Japanese companies for quality and refinement, but I'm an Audi man when it comes to premiums.

To me, Kershaw knives seems to compliment my spydercos, not compete with them. I have a few knives from them I really like, but Spyderco does not make a model directly competing with it. Their "boutique" runs are like Sal's sprint runs. Mainly upgraded steels and grips in runs of typically 4-600 knives.

I'll put it this way. Buying the Kershaws that I now have didn't stop me from getting my spydercos.

That's my philosophy. Why choose between them. Get both. Joe

Magnum Boots
Koken tools
Tajima

Excellent companies listed so far except for Apple but that is due to personal bias mostly. I havn't seen Pelican mentioned so far. They are excellent.

For the exact same reasons I like Spyderco (the reasons listed by the OP), I also like Himalayan Imports and Rat Cutlery. Two companies that have awesome warranties, high quality, hard-working products and owners that care about and listen to, their customer base.
I prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.
