How versatile is the 204 system ?
My pose to all you good folks is this : I have the SAK-GAK, which has a serrated blade, the scallops are different compared to the Spydies, pretty small and uniform. Will the 204 "PROPERLY" sharpen this knife. I am really trying to avoid "opening" these serrations up because of the lack of the correct sharpening device, henceforth have not used this knife because of said hurdle. Any and all advice accepted. :D
learning it the hard way...
The design of the 204 will work wonderfully on equa-spaced scallops on your knife. In fact, I would argue that it will sharpen that knife better than say a Spyderco with their 2-1 serration style. It will allow you a smoother easier sharpen. I have sharpened all types of kitchen knives ranging from very wide large serrations to very very small and narrow serrations. Each and every knife I have sharpened has turned out razor sharp with very little effort. It just takes time and patience.
Be sure to watch the DVD at least once through before attempting to sharpen the knife. It wouldnt hurt to watch it twice even. Go slow at first, angle is everything!!!! So slow, paying special attention to how you hold your hand and how you move your wrist/arm. Carry through from base to tip at the same angle.
Because I am not an expert, this is not advice but a testimonial. My OHT (civilian GAK, I believe) has been several times touched up on my Sharpmaker with excellent results, possibly better than the original factory edge and easy to achieve just following directions.wescobts wrote:My pose to all you good folks is this : I have the SAK-GAK, which has a serrated blade, the scallops are different compared to the Spydies, pretty small and uniform.
