Wharnies....Question for Sal included...
I'm starting to find myself drawn to the Wharncliff blade shape.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the current production Wharnies include the Kiwi, Cento 4, Urban and Spin.
Sal, are there plans to introduce any not-yet-released models with this blade shape? Maybe something along the lines of an urban but bigger and with a back lock (maybe closer to Caly 3 size thereabouts). Out of the current production Wharnie models only the Cento 4 appeals to me but I would love to see a Wharnie folder that's a little more up-scale.
For you Kiwi users, do you carry yours loose in your pocket or in the pouch to protect it?

Carry my Kiwis loose most of the time, but in the watch pocket of my jeans where the chances of damage are low. Sometimes do use a pouch, if the Kiwi I'm carrying has relatively soft scales, like malachite, turquoise, or petosky stone. Always use a pouch when I'm wearing pants without a watch pocket. The one I use most often is an A.G. Russell small leather pouch.JBE wrote:I'm starting to find myself drawn to the Wharncliff blade shape.

Not to knock the Rocklobster, but calling it a wharncliffe is stretching the defintion past the breaking point. Tip is closer to a sheepsfoot, edge is curved, not straight.RazorSharp86 wrote:That's correct. Soon though, the Enzo beast is going to arrive... The Rocklobster.

I started a thread on this very subject a few days back.JBE wrote:Sal, are there plans to introduce any not-yet-released models with this blade shape? Maybe something along the lines of an urban but bigger and with a back lock (maybe closer to Caly 3 size thereabouts).

That's why I didn't mention the Rock Lobster as I really don't consider it a Wharnie either.
Paul, thanks for the link for those pouches. I'm taking they're holding up well for you? Figured it wouldn't take long to post on this. :D
For the longest time I never really cared for the Kiwis but I'm starting to hear that Carbon Fiber one call my name rather loudly every time I look at it.
Tom...my apologies. I must have missed your thread completely.... :o

It's holding up fine Jason. Leather is thin and supple, of excellent quality, and the pouch is very well made. It is a rather snug fit on a Kiwi, and several years of occasional use have not stretched it out any. That doens't bother me, since quick deployment isn't a requirement for my Kiwis, but it may be an issue for others.

It's being sold through SFO.

I had to giggle thinking about deploying a Kiwi quickly for some emergency. The Deacon wrote:It's holding up fine Jason. Thanks again for the reply. I've always overlooked the Kiwi in the past but lately I've found myself interested in more classical-style pocket knives (hence the Kiwi). I've always made do with larger folders like the Millie, Endura and Police but I think a smaller, clip-less knife may have a place in my EDC rotation also, especially for formal occasions when the clip and butt-end of a large folder sticking out of my pocket would be out of sorts. I like the Wharnie blades and the advantages they offer over certain other blade types. I miss the underrated cutting ability and easy-to-sharpen characteristics of my old SS Calypso Jr (a sort of semi-Wharnie blade shape). I think a Kiwi may just be my ticket for what I'm looking for.The Deacon wrote:It's holding up fine Jason. Leather is thin and supple, of excellent quality, and the pouch is very well made. Any suggestions as to which Kiwi would make the best every day user?

Whenever I decide to carry my lone jigged bone Kiwi, it just goes in the small front pocket of my jeans. I don't feel it there, but it's there when I need it. Great LBK that's not to be underestimated because of size. Scary little cutter!
