Perrin folder

#1

Post by catamount »

A guy from France posted some pics of a Fred Perrin folder with a Spyderhole over on bladeforums.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... p?t=617613

I don't know if this is THE Perrin folder that Sal has spoken of, but I hope so, 'cause I really like it.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Looks interesting, I like the blade shape. It looks like it could be a :spyder: prototype to me. It doesn't looks like some of Mr. Perrin's custom work, since many of those have a rougher "as forged" type finish.

I like it.... :)

But it looks more "Anso-ee" than "Perin-ee"

I also think it looks more like a knife by Anso.

I wonder how the belt clip attaches to the knife?

(also posted on the BladeForums Spyderco site).

Actually the PPT is a beautiful piece. Typical well thought out design from the mind of Fred Perrin.

Fred asked that the design logo be "PPT" to honor those involved in the creation.

We're planning the "black carved G-10" version. Fred has a very unique variation on the lock. Kinda like a hybrid between the Walker Linerolock and the Reeve Integral Lock.

We're still a ways off. Working on protos now.

It's because Sacha Thiel made it, he's very capable.

......is it just me.....the blade on that folder resembles his Bowie; I see Perrin written all over that proto.

I'd like to see a Leaf shaped blade on this model. It looks like it would work well with the design, and make the knife more distictlivly a Spyderco.

Thanks

I really like the shape of that blade....it's so distinctive. I think it will make a unique contribution to the lineup.

Actually those pictures are mine (2 top ones) and this knife is my EDC for already several months now. Pics were stolen from me without permission but nevermind, I'm glad they are shared here and I think my friends Fred, Philippe and Sacha wouldn't mind about it.

The original PPT design and sepcs are from Fred (Perrin), with suggestions of his close mate Philippe Perotti. Fred asked young (and talentuous) knifemaker Sacha Thiel (I formely commissioned him on a collaboration knife on a balisong I designed few years ago), and that explains the finish don't look like the usual Perrin style... (though Fred is able to come with some gorgeous and very neatly finished pieces from time to time... ;) ).

Thus, the acronym PPT stands for Perrin - Perotti - Thiel.

OK now here are some additionnal pictures.

Hey Tuan,

Good to see you over here on the Spyderco forum. I just saw this post and realized instantly that those were your photos and that there was a mistake... Glad it has been corrected. I really enjoy this knife, its a great looking piece!

Any chance you can shed some light on what the 2 pins we see between the screws on backspacer are for?

Hey Brad,

Glad to see you here as well. :)

About the 2 little pins, Sacha just adds those one to make it easier to get the most precise adjusting with the spacer when you disassemble/reassemble the knife.

T-Wan, what type of knot is that on the lanyard? I'd like to maybe try it out on one of my EDCs.

Beautiful knife BTW

Thanks for the pics

Don't know how it's called, but it was one of the chinese button knots my mother use to tie when I was a kid. :)
