Ocelot Help ...PLEASE!!!

#1

Post by raven »

Hey All, I'm calling on the All Knowing "Family Members" for some assistance. I started a thread a while back regarding the pivot bolt on the Ocelot.

I contacted Our Knifesis Tazkristi, who so kindly directed me to Charlynn of W&R. Charlynn was also very kind and quick in responding back to me, but unfortunately she informed me that they "no longer" have the pivot bolt available, because not only is it a discontinued item, but also not manufactured here in the U.S. :( .

So, I'm kindly requesting that if any of you AWESOME Family Members know where I can obtain a pivot bolt for the Ocelot??? I did try a pivot bolt from the G10 Byrd Flight and G10 Crossbill. Both bolts have the same thread pattern, but are a bit to long and leave me unable to tighten the bolt down enough to tighten the blade adequately. I thought about cutting one of the bolts down with a dremel tool, but I'm afraid to damage the bolt  .

If anyone can point me in the right direction ... I Really Appreciate It ;) . The other bit of information I'm trying to obtain is ...CAN THE OCELOT ACCEPT BRONZE PHOSPHOROUS WASHERS??? Thank You Fine Family Members for listening. Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

I'm sorry, but I've never even seen an Ocelot in person. My guess would be that it will not accept washers without a lot of work, although if the pivot bolt is a little long, they might take up the slack. The problem is you'd have to shim out the rest of the handle to match that thickness. Without having seen one and disassembled it, I have no idea how difficult that would be.

On a side note, shortening the pivot bolt shouldn't be a problem.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Didn't Tricod say he might be able to help you? If he doesn't have one that will drop in, I'm fairly sure either he or STR would be able to replace it with on that will put the knife back in working order again. Also, if you have a screw that fits but is too long, either of them might be able to shorten it for you.

As for the washers, I'm inclined to think not. If the Ocelot uses washers at all they'd have to be the ultra think plastic kind. There's no discernable gap between the blade and liners as there is on any model I've ever seen with PB washers. Putting thicker washers on it would mess up the fit of the lockbar.

Hi Paul, I attempted to send Tricod and STR a PM/E-mail ...apparently the messages I sent at the time didn't go through like I thought  ...our internet service at work is ridiculous (PITA:mad :) . Will have to resend and see what advice they have. I figured to exercise the option of the W&R also ;) .

Thank You for the Heads Up on the washers ...wasn't real sure if the ocelot was able to take PB washers. Thanks for the info Sir ;) . Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

STR's a bit backed up, and has had to slow down a bit due to some health isssues, but the easiest/best way to contact him is to post a thread on his forum over on BladeForums. FWIW, I've never had any success contacting Tricod by email either, but thought it might just be something with his ISP and mine not playing well together.

That will work but find yourself a small nut that fits the threads to put over the bolt first. Cut as much off beyond the nut as you need gone then back the nut off to clean up any thread damage. You should be fine.

Can't really go wrong cutting down the bolt. Hold it with needle nosed pliers and grind down with a Dremel cutting wheel. Keep it flat, go slow, and you'll be fine.

Hey Paul, I had no idea that STR was having some health issues :( ...Thanks for the idea about posting over at BladeForums ;) .

Getting a bit desperate and will give it a go with the dremel tool using the ideas that Ken and RLR suggested (THANKS KNIFEBROS :) )

Normally I wouldn't have any issues trying this in the past, but since this BLASTED HAND INJURY  :( ... I Still lack the dexterity to do some things the way I used to. Lucky for me I'm ambi and STUBBORN  . I'll give it a go and let you all know how it turns out. If it doesn't workout, I'll contact STR and Tricod for some assistance ;) . THANKS A TON Knifebros for the info!!! Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Ocelot All Fixed ... Finally!!!

#17

Post by raven »

Hey All, The Ocelot Is All Fixed Up :D !!! I was able to use a pivot bolt from the G10 Crossbill. Cleaned up the threads a bit and torqued it down with no problems. Didn't even have to do any dremel work  :p . I was also able to find a replacement bolt for the Crossbill ...Both in working order and ready to take on cutting tasks. Just thought I'd share ;) . Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)
