Help adjusting Spin or Cricket screws

#1

Post by artdoggy »

Hello,

Hoping that someone can chime in and clue me in to how to adjust the screws on my Spyderco Spin. Is there a certain order or way to adjust the tightness of the screws? When I tighten the screws completely (not overly tight, just hand tight) the blade it is very hard to open and the frame lock does not engage at all. On the other hand if I leave the screws loose, the frame lock engages but the blade & screws are too loose. At first I thought perhaps I had faulty Spin but then I started playing with my Cricket (which is perfect) and when I slightly loosened the screw that holds the stop pin I got the same problem. Eventually I found a happy medium with the Cricket (and probably because I only messed with the 1 screw) and got it back to good. However I can't seem to find the happy medium with the Spin. Anyone else ever take their Spin or Cricket apart? BTW....I love my Cricket SE and I'm sure I would love my Spin just as much if I could get it to work like the Cricket.

Thanks

Thanks.

I don't recall having any trouble with mine when I took it apart to polish up the pivot area. I'd screw all the body screw in until they aren't tightened all the way, then adjust the pivot and set it where it needs to be. Then go back and tighten the body screws and double check that Id idn't over tighten them by opening and closing the blade.

usually the screw behind the pivot will make a difference on stiffness. I usually tighten to finger tight and then back off the pivot and one behind it until it's smooth.

Tighten the Stop pin screw until the blade tension and movement is where you want in. Then tighten the Pivot screw until blade play has been removed.
