Spyderco Factory Outlet Store Sale

#1

Post by Marion David Poff »

OK,

If any of our friends from the Forums happen to visit the SFO Sale, would you please let us know, in clear and uncertain language, what we missed?

I need to know if I should plan to go next year.....

I guess what I need to know is.....

Is it mainly seconds?

Do you see items that may have been disco'd awhile?

What is the basis for the sale? What is the concept?

Is it just a one time discount from MSRP?

Its all seconds! Nothing new for the mostpart. I think sometimes you will see good deals on closeout, but those are online as well, stuff like the T-mag just was... but mostly just killer deals on factory seconds. Last year I got a CF ZDP Caly 3 for $60 I never did figure out what was wrong with it.
Spot for $10... If I can find my camera I'll snag photos... If your within 100miles its worth the drive.

Man, I wish I was there, I am always in the market for Spyderco Fixed Blades....

Brad, I sent you an email via the Southard Knives blog, is that the appropriate way to contact you?

Well I picked up a
Red bone handled Kiwi= $25
SE Cricket= $15
G10 Robin= $5

My son bought
Military= $20
Police= $30
Micro Dyad Mother Of Pearl= $25
SE Black Ladybug= $5

All New in the Box Byrds were buy one get another FREE
Got a Flat Byrd and a free FRN Robin

One side of the Room was seconds and the other was New Byrds.
Lots of the laminated wood scale Kopa
tons and tons of Natives for $15
Bunch of fixed blades that went quick
Lots and Lots of stones and displays

This was my third Sale and each time I have been happy when leaving.
I was looking for a Red Bone Kiwi and found it. I did not find the Sheepfoot Ladybug that I am questing for.

Living close does have its advantages. We arrived at 7:30 and were about
50th in line. After almost an hour of shopping, there were still people lined up.

Thanks to the Spyderco folks for hosting a great sale.

Heres my scores for the day.

Image

Most of these are not for me, I was shoping for friends and fellow forumites, and the Hossom isnt mine at all, its another forumites that he got today, Im just making a sheath for it.

But here is the rundown

2 Carbon Fiber Militarys S90V for $40 each
SS plain cricket, $15
2 Paramilitarys, one Blackblade one normal $40
UKPK $20
FRN Delica 4 SE $15
Manix FG $40
Barong $40
Rocksalt $50
Centofante 3 $25
Various sharping stuff 0.50 each

+ tax

So why are they seconds you ask?

Rocksalt=
Sheath is missing a rivot :D

Militarys=
One has a tight detent, second has a small "bump" the size of a pin head near the logo

Barong, Manix, UKPK=
All three have a slightly lighter color Foliage green than stardard, function and grinds PERFECT

Centofante 3=
Couldnt tell you, I cant find the flaw

Delica 4=
The liner where the clip screws attach are stripped. (I happen to have a extra replacement liner)

Cricket=
Scratched handle

Paramilitary=
Black= scratched blade
Other one= faded logo

Various stones= Chips and divots etc...

Dont forget to account for tax... just saying. I know last year I grabed stuff for some friends and forgot to charge tax and ended up eating it... not a big deal, just annoying.

Here is my haul,

Hossum Forester-----$40 (one small scratch on the vertical down the non logo side)
Chinook 3 X2 ---@$40 each (When the knife is in the open position there is a bump your thumb has to feel from the "tang to the spine")
Native---one black and one stainless @$15 each (cannot tell)
ZDP Delica PE---$30 (Light scratches)
Yin and Yang kitchen knives $10 each (funny grind at the tip--extreamly little)
Para Military-SE BLK $25 (slightly chip on a SE tooth)
UK Pen Knife OG-$20 (G10 looks a little funny in the light. You can see some light sopts)

Tricod---You were behind me in line. Nice basket.

*shakes head*

Ok, NEXT year I suspect some of us will need to hire a proxy to get stuff.

Of course, I think I said that last year (or was that the year before :o )

I arrived at 0840 and the line was already huge. The doors opened right at 0900 and then the line crawled. Once they let the first big group in, they let one in for one out. I finally got in at 1030 and there was plenty of stuff. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had other things to get done, today. This was my first time to the annual sale, but having spoken to others who were there, they said it was the largest crowd they've seen, as well as the most chaotic. I personally think they need a bigger room for their sale.

With that said, I made out OK for my first sale.
Military G-10 $40
2 ParaMilitary G-10 $40/ea
2 Centofante 3's $25/ea
2 Yin $10/ea
2 Yang $10/ea

I was really hoping for a Manix or a Police in G-10, but I'll just keep trying my luck on Ebay. That's probably where I'll have to find a PE D'Allara, too. And I wish I would have jumped on the abundance of $15 Tenacious for gifts, but I knew I'd ready spent too much.

Finally, I saw some people drop some serious cash, today! I know I dropped $225, but I saw others in the checkout line lay down more than $600. Maybe gifts, maybe Ebay sellers, I don't know, but they dropped some serious jack.

Hope that's a good enough report.
