Anyone have a Byrd Robin?
Anyone have a Byrd Robin?
I originally wanted a D'Fly but without a left hand carry option, being left handed, I could not go through with the sale. After looking at, what I think would be considered it's cousin, the byrd robin. I went for the g-10 one. I already ordered it, so I wasn't really looking for a review, but I guess I'm looking to live vicariously through another until it arrives. Any kind words on this model ? I searched the forum and only found a few pictures, but nothing written about it.

I won one in a forum contest last December. I carry it now and then, and find it to be well made, with quality comparable to the regular Spyderco line. The handle fills the hand well, making it very easy to use. It performs like a much larger knife. In fact, I've been contemplating picking another one up, just cause. I think you'll be happy with your purchase.

I just bought a Stainless Robin. I am flying to Chicago next month for a buisness trip. Chicago has a 2 1/2 inch knife law. Also I wanted a knife that I would not get too upset if it disappeared from my luggage. So the Robin fits the bill.
I also have a DragonFly. But I find it a little off in my hand. I think it is too light, too small for my hand. The Robin seems to fit well. It is a little stiff opening, but as I work it, it is getting better. Very Sharp. This is my second knife with 8Cr13MoV. I like it.

I just ordered two G-10 Robins last night. My brother left a small Kershaw on a counter of a convenience store, and when he called about it, the clerk said he had given it to a CSP officer. When my brother asked for the officer's name so he could try to retrieve his knife, the clerk couldn't remember his name.
Long story short, my bro likes a smaller knife, so I thought he'd like the Robin. It's unfortunate, because his son gave him the Kershaw and now it's gone. Hopefully the Robin will be a suitable replacement. Oh yeah, the second one is for me!

I bought a stainless Robin and found it a little heavy for its size, and also found that it was somewhat rough opening and closing, at least compared to other spyderco knives. Then I got a FRN one in the recent giveaway (Thanks, Kristi). That one is really wonderful. The lined handle makes it very sturdy, but still much lighter than the SS one. And this one opens and closes very smoothly. I would guess that the fit and finish of the later knives is better. I had thought about a dragonfly, but I think this really meets the need that a d-fly would fill.

I gave my bro the SS SE version for christmas one year, and now he carries it everywhere. He is not a knife or gadget person, but he appreciates a good tool when he needs it.
Though, I would compare it to the Navigator II in terms of size and egros though. My bro loves his robin better than my SE Nav :p

I enjoy
mine and use it for my job. I smuggled it into a secure area and leave it at work. If caught, its not a big hot to the wallet.

I bought fisrt a d.fly the a robin. The second is always clip in my rear pocket. I own plenty knifes, only three spydyes indeed, but some are quite good, but I find the robin unvaluable. It costs so few that if is lost is not a drama, but it petrform rearly whell and, for me, is prooving to have a great edge holding.I find it also very ergonomics, better than d'fly wich gave me problems in opening cause of my light artris, could not ask more
I carry one on a regular basis and this little knife delivers all the time. It is build like a tank and I would not know anything to improve on it. No, not even the 8CR13MOV steel which has proven to be top notch in EDC!

The Robin is a great little knife "IF" you like finger choils and don't mind giving up the 1/2" of steel dedicated to the choil. So yes I have one (FRN) and I really wanted to like it, but I don't ever use it because of the choil.
Don't leave earth without some teeth. I carry a knife to open a can of worms.
