Something disturbing at Mickey D's

Post by Shike »

Tonight it was one of those hectic nights so we went to McDonalds to grab a fast bite. Anyway while we are eating I overheard this lady of about 65 ask a couple that was sitting there with their kid, if they would watch the 2 young ones ( a girl of about 3 and a boy of about 1 1/2 ) that were with her, while she went to the bathroom. The place is almost empty and she didn't know these people from Adam. Nothing happened ( I wouldn't have let it), and after about 5 minutes the woman comes out and thanks them. What bugs me is how in **** did she know that these people weren't going to take those kids? There is no way in **** that I would do something like that. Then when the **** hits the fan they start their sorry *** crying and second guessing their actions. I have never and would never but Christ that little devil inside just wanted to smack her upside the head. I wondered how many times she has done that?

I agree with you, with all the terrible acts taking place as we speak, you can not trust just anyone. Glad to hear that this time it went well, glad to know you weren't going to let anything happen. :)
learning it the hard way...

This unfortunate lady probably has a pretty low IQ...after 65 years on this earth she should have learned this one by now.

Good thing you kept an eye out on the kids, bro. :)

The sad thing is yes she shouldn't have done that, but i think the sadder thing is that we have to worry about things like the now. Not just 30 years ago you wouldn't have a second thought about asking some one to watch you child for a moment. You wouldn't have to be scared to open the door late at night when some one knocks. Its crap like this that makes me sad.

It is shocking in this day and age that the old lady was careless enough to trust complete strangers with those children.Thankfully you were there to ensure there welfare people of her generation sometimes forget that the world has become a more dangerous and harsher place .
On the plus side there are still plenty of people like you to balance out the feral semi-human predators

Let me tell you (and I'm sure some LEOs will agree), you would be AMAZED at how careless people can be about their children and don't think anything about. In 6 years of doing child protective services I have seen incidents like this all too often. I have been called out when 6 children all under 7 were wandering their neighborhood because their mom left them to go to work. Thankfully a good person like you called the police and the kids were taken care of. Those calls come in everyday.

What is sad is that oftentimes when you try to explain the risk that these actions poseto kids, the adults usually get angry at you. Thank God these kids were fine.

I had a similar experience at a Mickey D's. I was eating with my son and saw a young woman who used to work with me. She was wearing scrubs and watching two toddlers eat. She told me that she was working for some kind of doctor's office and had to watch kids as part of her job...it was a little fuzzy. Anyways, one of the kids had one too many fries and vomited on herself and the floor. The woman I used to work with took the child by the hand and went to the bathroom, leaving a 2-3 year old child just sitting there at a table by himself!

Even though we were done eating, I stuck around until she got the other kid cleaned up and came out of the bathroom. I just could not believe that she would do something like that.

My son is 9 now, and I think about how my brothers and I used to roam all over the neighborhood all day and never once go home to check in. I keep an eye on my kid when he goes out to check the mail! Not that my parents were bad parents...it was just different 25 years ago.

I wouldn't do it.That said there are still trusting people out there that still think things are like they were 30 years ago.It is a shame that it is not a good idea to do what see did.

... I think this alone is a testament to society. Even my dog knows when to stop eating, and he runs into the wall if you shine a laser pointer on it.

because of her age, she use to live in a time when it was possible to do such a thing, when people trusted each other more, and helped out more.

unfortunately today things have changed...

I guess she didn't realize that...

so many people have bad judgement today. you can't just say it's common sense, it needs to be taught.

Perhaps she was counting on the watchful eyes and good will of other strangers like yourself.

Anybody else ever find dead flies with their fries?

Thanks for the replies!
I can't hang this one on age. I am old school also! People need to wise up. Don't they see what happens everyday with stuff like that. Really I don't give a crap about her, she must be dumber than a box of rocks. But what could happen to those kids? IMO, That is the kind of mistakes that cannot happen. What can you tell the parents? Oh! I am sorry but I had to pee real bad? Now your kids are missing? ........Well, sorry just doesn't cut it in that situation. When it comes to my kids all bets are off. I see crap like this all the time. Kids 6 or 7 wondering thru the neighborhood, all alone. Had a neighbor recently, who was more worried about getting hitched than her kid's safety. Her one daughter of about 3 or 4 walking by herself in the street about a block away. If someone wanted to grab her and throw her in a car, no one could get to her help fast enough.
I don't know what is worst. That we are living in a time and place where we have to worry about this or that there are people out there that don't really care.
My point in posting this is that if you know anyone that does this or takes care of your children make sure that they follow your instructions on what your rules are when it comes to their safety. Older people can be forgetful, teenagers can be careless. Some folks find a relative to do this because it's cheaper or more convenient. It is our job as parents that we find suitable, responsible people to look after our kids when we are not able to do so ourselves.
Okay I'll get off the soap box now.

This is a good example of why not to type on any forum when your sleep deprived. Things that sound witty or funny then are just weird when you see them with a well-rested mind.

Sorry 'bout this Shike, I truly meant nothing by it. I just tend to think alot about what I read and then turn into a lazy typist. :o It's just good to hear from other people that people still care and we don't live in a wholey appathetic or amoral world.
