I've been carrying a SAK for years, and lately it's been a Vic Tinker.

SAKs simply are so small and handy I have to carry one, no matter what other knives I have on me.

Is anyone else this way as well?

I also love SAKs. I almost always have a SAK on me, or at least nearby. The thin blades cut well, the tools are handy, and they are cheap with high quality.

Right now I am carrying my Kiwi, but I have a Victorinox Rambler on my keychain and a Climber in my bag.

Why would you want to try to lose it?

SAK's should get some kind of Cutlery Lifetime Achievement Award!

Everyone should own at least one and carry it with them every day. :D

I have carried a SAK for 35 years and am unlikely to change now. ;)

I wasn't trying, but I did lose my Tinker :( Otherwise I would still be carrying it. I carry a Leatherman at work, so I haven't bothered to get a new small SAK.

I always have a SAK lying around. The blades are super sharp and easy to sharpen. The SAK themselves are very cost effecient, so if you lose one it's easy to pick up another. They make a great beater, so you can be selective with your expensive knives. Very useful.

i have been carrying a sak for 25 + years myself. i agree these folks deserve some sort of award. you are ready if you need to open a bottle of wine or beer, tighten a screw or saw a limb. i can't imagine not having a sak in my pocket. teamed with my tasman salt i feel prepared with a low profile cutting tool for most any situation. saks are also very sheeple friendly.

I love the "pocket sickle" comment. That's pretty good.....and true.

I love SAK's too. I have about 6 of them and carry an Alox Farmer most days along with whatever else I have on me.

My current EDC, along with a Emerson HD-7, is a Vic Red Alox Farmer.

If I haven't got one in my pocket, there is at least one close by (ie. desk drawer, etc). I got a Gunmetal Alox Cadet for Fathers Day through Tim at FelineVet and couldn't be happier (wife even like helping the little furballs out). It now resides as EDC.

Always carry a SAK Soldier. I bought 3 with consequential years of manufacture 01, 02, 03 and had my name engraved in the 01, my oldest boy in the 02 and the youngest 03.

I personally own a couple of the "Packlock" 84mm pre-Victorinox Wengers.
(Packlock being a lever meant to lift 'n unlock the backspring which locks the main blade).
A simple two layer version with a philips/cross screw driver which replaces the cockscrew on the back, is very much my favorite SAK EDC for me.

That's the one in my pocket as well. If I could swap the extra blade for a file, it would be the perfect SAK to me. It makes me wonder why Victorinox hasn't adopted the "Packlock" for some of their models, as it adds a measure of safety to a small. easily carried package.

The main reason as a preffered choice was for it's unique locking device on the main blade.
At 84mm (though, some may consider small), is adequate enough for general about-town duties.
Besides, there's always the larger 111mm Victorinox Adventurer (discontinue model 0.8953) that is large enough to handle larger problems... oh, and it has that corkscrew replaced with a philips screw driver.
So, whilst the standard SAK is a great tool to carry; I had always been cautious of notion that a sliplock could fail someday.

I love SAKs, I keep a Classic SD on me all the time and for travel switch to a full size Climber model. They're so well refined, the tools are 'just' right, as are the blades and overall package.
