Whats Your DREAM KNIFE?
I haven't been on this forum very long, but I have been on long enough that I understand that most of you guys love these knives so much that you cant really figure out which one you want to carry as your EDC.
I have carried a knife in my pocket since I was about Ten. Many different brands, many different styles. In the last Ten years I have carried Gerbers, Benchmade, Cold Steel and Now Spyderco.
Cold Steel Impressed me with their pure toughness... Spyderco has impressed me with their Beauty and design.
I notice that a lot of you guys carry TWO knives, One PE and One SE...
I would also like this luxury... But I'm not going to carry Two Knives.
I would love to see a double-bladed knife like the DYAD, but BIGGER. 3 1/2 inch to 4 inch blades, One like the Endura, the other like the SE Rescue. VG-10, with a G-10 Handle, screw construction with Back-Locks. 4-way clip, Lanyard hole on one side, Rescue Whistle on the other.
The kind of knife I could take with me to another dimension and never worry about it.
A. Why doesn't Spyderco make a bigger dyad?
B. Whats your dream knife?

Why they wouldn't and my ex Dream Knife/current
I don't think Spyderco would go through with a design like that due to financial/marketing reasons. The dyad is, while handy for sure (it is a :spyder: ), almost a novelty item. Very few people actually require a PE and a SE separately, I would think, and since the steel is the expensive part of the knife, a double bladed larger knife would have the cost increase exponentially, I would think. That would therefore lead to very few buyers of an unnecessary big 'ol dyad.
I don't really know about all that marketing stuff, I'm just speaking out of logic. I don't know what :spyder: 's profit margins are, though I'd like to think they're very low :D ... it makes it easier for me to shell out $120 for a knife.
Ex Dream Shiv: I had a Benchmade Blackwood mini Skirmish about two years ago. It had had very good blade steel, a black coating (one of those fancy Ti coatings, I think) , and a very unique blue titanium handle with integrated frame lock. It was my baby for the longest time, as I wasn't a spydie fiend then. My ex girlfriend stole it from me after I broke up with her. I went to her house and tore it up looking for it, but she'd pawned it. #$@%!
Current: Gunting for sure, I haven't even handled one, but just looking at the picture makes me want to strike pressure points.

I don't know why Spyderco doesn't make a larger Dyad, but perhaps it has something to do with poor sales (maybe...).
As to what I would consider my perfect knife, I honestly don't have one. I end up using PE, SE, Leaf and Hawkbill for my varied cutting chores.
I couldn't get by with a Dyad, as I use a Hawkbill blade all the time, and the Dyad has none.
If I had to chose between only having one edge type (PE vs. SE), and only having one blade type (Leaf vs. Hawkbill), I would choose to have both blade types with only one edge type (it would be PE; sorry Arend :p ); though I greatly prefer a PE Leaf blade paired with an SE Hawkbill, at the very minimum :D .
If I were forced to only carry one knife, it would be the PE Caly3. It's a marvel of engineering, and I have never come across a job which it couldn't do (there were other knives that could have done the job better, but the Caly3 performed admirably).

Back from an extended hiatus.

Dream Spydie?
I've carried quite a few Spydies, the one that was most comfortable in Hand...Large Persian...So my Dream Spydie would be a
Large Persian, Damasteel Blade, something different than Micarta..Lignum Vitae maybe?
Or.
Bring back the Full-size Manix in D2 or Bg42, I'd be all over it.

Manix with Vascowear, or M4 blade. Joe

A. Perhaps because it would be even more uncomfortable in the hand than the C44.
B. Here are a couple of my dream knives. This one's still on the drawing board...

This one became reality just over three years ago and was in my pocket earlier today...

Just Me
Dyad C44 is and has been for some time a good fit for me , I also carry a Merlin weak side or another hawkbill . Two blades are good for some and not others which is ok here , larger version of a Dyad in nu opinion will never happen . The Wings Byrd I might add is a very good sub . MG2
i can only answer B but conclusivley i would like to see the probe model brought back, that would be my dream knife along with alot of other discontinued knives, take a look at this site.

How about the Byrd Wings G-10 ~ BY20G? Blades are 3 3/8", almost to your dream specs; so's the handle material and the SE sheepfoot tip.tomahawk23 wrote:I haven't been on this forum very long, but I have been on long enough that I understand that most of you guys love these knives so much that you cant really figure out which one you want to carry as your EDC.

I saw a video from the last blade show, and it's a little thick, but pretty darned impressive. Can't go wrong for fitty bucks retail...
